1995 Toyota Tacoma problem

Hi guys, I'm posting this for a friend. He has a 1995 Toyota Tacoma with 250X,XXX miles. He said that the car has hesitation after the engine warms up but its okay during start up. He took it to the dealership and the dealership is asking him $1600 for the parts and repair. Also, he has a K&N air filter and the mechanic is blaming the air filter because they said that the filter is the wrong filter. They said that it damaged the sensor. Anyone knows what is this or fix? Thanks in advance.

Is it the mass airflow sensor? If K&N filters are over oiled they can coat the sensor with oil and damage them. I have never seen one on a Tacoma but they are usually easy to remove even by those with minimal skills. He could try removing it and cleaning it with electrical parts cleaner and put it back.
If that doesn't help they run a few hundred for a reman unit and about double that for a new one.
