Honda CR-V and Fit hybrids confirmed

Channel4.com reports that Honda is to offer a hybrid version of its Fit (Jazz) supermini from 2007, according to Hybridcars.com.
A Honda insider told the website that the Fit can perfectly accommodate the powertrain from the hybrid Insight two-seater, as it has the same front track (width between the front wheels).
The 1.0-litre petrol engine, combined with electric motors, is said to produce fuel consumption of 50-55mpg in the Fit. Pricing for this car, which will allow Honda to discontinue the slow-selling and impractical Insight, is estimated at $15,000-17,000, making this petrol-electric hybrid more accessible than the Toyota Prius or Honda's own Civic Hybrid.
Sales outside the US have not yet been confirmed, however.
A more likely prospect for UK and European sales is a hybrid version of the new-generation CR-V. Hybridcars.com reports that this model, to feature the same powertrain as the recently-launched Civic Hybrid, will go on sale in the US towards the end of this year. It may not come in right-hand drive form, however, unless it is built alongside the conventionally-engined CR-Vs in the factory at Swindon, England, rather than with the Civic Hybrid in Japan. A hybrid version of its sister model, the Acura RDX, is also expected.
