http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ncap/cars/3846.html

To recap, here is the Fit site.

For me it came down to these two vehicles and the Scion Xa... I'm glad I chose the Fit.

for the fit, they must have started drinking the sake right when designing the saftey portion for the rear side impacts.
and for the yaris. I think they started drinking sake at the start of the whole project :D

Wow, that sight is very thorough! For some reason i get a strange sense of satisfaction when i see the fit in the head-on video. I hope i never have to experience that satisfaction though, haha.

It just HAD to be a sport model, too. Couldn't they spare a base Fit? lol

We decided no on the Yaris after a test drive, so the crash test results just re-sealed the deal.

We chose the Fit because we have to get 2 Golden Retrievers, a small dog, luggage, and assorted crap for travel and the Yaris just didn't have the room.
The safety ratings just prove we made the correct choice.

Just another reason why the Fit fits.

Wow, Yaris did not do so well in the front impact.

Side impact is bad because the car tested does not have side airbags. They are standard on the Fit of course.

But if the Yaris wants to compare apples to apples, it needs to factor in those optional air bags into the price. But that still does not excuse the frontal crash ratings.

I was just thinking about safety and remembered that the gas tank was stuck under the front seats for more room in back.
Could that pose a problem/danger?
I dont have the car close so I can look to see where the tank is exactly at.

Considering that we still have to share the highway with monster vehicles (and from what I saw in Montreal, Americans are much more into big gas guzzlers than Canadians are), the number of stars, Fit vs. Yaris, should be a big issue when deciding between the two. Now we'll be waiting to see how the Nissan Versa stacks up.

Depends on if she's accident prone.

I test drove the Yaris before I drove the Fit... honestly the crash results don't surprise me, the Yaris doesn't feel nearly as solid and well built as the Fit. Plus the Yaris was VERY twitchy on the freeway, it reminded me of the steering of an old Hyundai Accel that an X-gf had... that car scared me to death. The Fit is definately the better car. I'm glad I spent more money and went with the Fit.
