98 buick r.i.p.?

Earlier today I found a friends car in front of my house. I think it's a 98 regal but the question isn't very specific. He bought it 2 years ago (I wasn't there) with oil in the coolant. He has been driving it for 2 years getting regular oil changes but never fixed the leaky head gasket or found the cause for the leak. It apparently has been overheating for a few days so he pulls over and lets it cool then starts up again. The question. Is the car toast?
