2016 Accord Sport Review from 2009 Fit owner

I posted this on Drive Accord but thought I would cross post here.

Hi all. My 2009 Fit is part of the most recent Takata air bag recall. Since the part to fix it won't be ready until summer, my local Honda dealer gave me a 2016 Accord Sport in Lunar Silver to drive until my Fit is fixed. This worked out great because I have been considering this exact same car as my next car purchase. I have been driving it since March 7th and have put about 2,500 miles on it including a long road trip.

I am doing this in a pro & con format rather than giving a long narrative. Keep in mind my normal car is a Fit and I do occasionally drive my wife's 2014 CRV EX-L.

Pros:
- Really good acceleration on the highway above 50mph. Really handy for passing a big truck or passing a car when needing to get over to make an exit. Something definitely lacking in the Fit.
- Pretty good infotainment system, especially considering this is a base model car with a bunch of cosmetic upgrades. The large screen is nice and is much bigger than the one in the '14 CRV EXL (no navi).
- Substantial on the road. I am used to getting blown around in the Fit on windy days but I have not experienced this in the Accord.
- Looks great, but if I was going to get this trim level I would definitely go for the San Marino Red.
- Great gas mileage, just a little worse than the Fit but considering the size of the car, I was impressed. Around town I am getting 27/28 on the highway I get around 32. In the Fit I get 30 around town and on the highway as it gets into some high RPMs when trying to maintain 70mph.
- Roomy trunk.
- I like the new sport seats they put in the 16's. Would prefer full leather but the price to upgrade all the way to an EXL would be steep.
- Lots of room in the backseat for my son's car seat.

Cons:
- Acceleration off the line isn't great, would imagine the CVT is to blame.
- The backup camera is pretty worthless. Even after turning the brightness all the way up, it is still much dimmer than the one in my wife's CRV. The image also comes across as blurry and distorted.
- No compass. Considering the other tech in this car, I find it odd that there is no compass.
- 19 inch wheels. Though they look great, I am very nervous I am going to pop a tire or crack one of these wheels on this loaner. Would be an expensive fix.
- Noisy ride, especially the wind. Although it is quieter than the Fit, I expected much less noise in the Accord.
- No mirror on the sunglasses holder like there is in the CRV. Maybe this is included on the higher trim Accords.
- Sound system is weak.

After this extended test drive, I think I am going to wait to see what the 10th gen Accord brings, especially after seeing what Honda did with the 10th gen Civic. I may consider the new Ridgeline but that will probably in a different price range than the Accord.

If you're only getting 30 MPG in a Fit, you're doing something really wrong.

the mirror is a CRV thing.. my 08 accord didn't have it and my 2015 pilot doesn't have it FYI.. If they made a v6 6speed 9th gen accord sedan i would be all over it.. I wish i got an accord for a loaner.. I have a 2015 civic hybrid.. funny how much more tech is in this over my pilot

I have a 2014 Accord Sport and think it's a perfect car. I'm trading for a 2017 Accord Sport actually this weekend :)

I think the rear view camera is amazing hahaha....I don't have one i my 86/FRS so it's such a luxury in the accord.

I agree about the new 19's...they looks great, but they are also big and tires are more pricey. However the car will be more stable on highways which is a plus.
