Or I think we could find a way to make it harder for people to spam like they have to have 5 posts before they can start a thread and those 5 posts can only be in the fit newbie section or offtopic something like that. That was an idea that was brought up a long time ago :/

I report spam quite often

some things other boards have done at an admin level where they know the forum software (examples adapted to this board)

alter the registration questions (as a lot of the spam is done by auto hacker/spammer programs)
Most of these programs put USA as a location and the name of the forum as biography

1. Location question (put do not put USA as a location) then if USA is put in the location it auto rejects

2. biography (do not put fit freak) then if that is the answer it auto rejects

3. add a question are you human? no answer or no as an answer it auto rejects

or instead of auto reject you could do admin approval on registers where questions where answered wrong.

vBulletin has a forum where web masters help and trade info and the programmers of vBull list plug ins. Internet Brands you would think would have helpful info too after all they should be screening all the ads for virus.

Fitcapo's idea is good too.

LOL. Members will be hunting for spammers just to get free reps.

these are good ideas. but who has the authority to change "minimum post count before you can start a thread" kinds of things.

what about a spam button that if three-four unique, registered users click on, it suspends the post until an admin or mod can review it and delete accordingly.

also, the "no new threads until 15 posts" is a good idea for new users.

I like the idea of not being able to start a thread until there is a post limit reached. but what is to stop them from typing 10 characters in any given thread?

Exactly! They're just going to invade *our* threads with their spam in posts all over the place, which would be even worse than when they keep it in their own thread.

I think, however, that a limit on how often you can post could be a good idea for very new members. Maybe even just for the first day?

I was thinking something like this might be a good idea. There are lots of times when numerous people report the threads but there are just no mods around by coincidence. That would help a lot.
