The reason I ask is because I noticed that everything about the second generation is lumped into one section and with the search function being very ineffective in my experience, I think it would be good to make separate topic categories..
Look at yarisworld.com they have the DIY section, New Yaris Purachase section, performance, exterior/interior modification, etc.
I would love to see the fitfreak being a little more organized and to have specialized sections like that.

I have some input following along some of the same lines as the OP. The 2nd Gen is spread out so much among the rest of the site, it's not easily navigable. I didn't even realize that there was a section dedicated to DIY until I saw this thread, Partially because of the organization but primarily because of all of the stickies at the top of the 2nd Gen general Discussion. Would it be possible to either get rid of all of the Stickies or put a single sticky at the top of that thread linking to the DIY (and then move all of the DIY's to that) thread? Between the stickies and the announcements that have been up (what seems) forever, the pages have grown way too long. No one should have to scroll 1 1/2 pages just to get to the new posts.
I realize this has been discussed before but I still think that there should be one grouping for 1st Gen, and a 2nd grouping for 2nd Gen with sub-forums listed. This would likely limit the need for the high number of stickies and also likely cut down on the number of duplicate posts.
