how does the Alarm work on the 2009 fit sport

I wanted to see how my alarm worked today. I locked the doors while inside. The red light came on. If I reached over to open the passenger door and tried to open it, would go off as expected. If I unlocked the drivers door by moving the lock switch at the door handle so that it could be opened it would not go off. I did not test it yet but Im worried, if someone reached in and unlocked the drivers door they could get in easily. Am I missing something, how could this alarm be useful this way. The alarm doesn't go off when you try to open it from the outside using the outside door handles when locked. It doesn't seem like much of a alarm to me. Am I doing something wrong. Thanks..

Sorry I could not find where to start a new post

i tried setting off the alarm too and that was the only way I could get it to go off. They designed it pretty poorly in my opinion unless I'm missing something too.
