Cheapest possible key for Honda fit _sport_ 2008?

I recently got a 2008 Honda Fit Sport. It only came with one key, so I've been trying to understand how to get a fully functional spare key made.
The car VIN matches "***GD3****..." so I assume it's a first generation Honda fit based on the information in this post.
The one key I have has three buttons (lock, unlock, panic) and an inscriptions that read: FCC ID OUCG80-380H-A IC 850G-G80D380HA
The car itself has a sticker on each of the front windows saying it is equipped with an immobilizer system (I believe the regular 2008 Honda fit did not have an immobilizer system, but the sport model do...).

My local Honda Service Center gave me a quote of:

$ 95 for a new key
$170 for cutting and programming it.
+ tax => $ 300
which imo is a ridiculous amount of money for _a_ spare key, so I went online and stared digging...

From what I've understood there are 3 steps to making a fully working key (Please let me know if I'm miss-informed):
  1. Cutting the key
  2. Programming the immobilizer chip (dealer/locksmith only)
  3. Programming the remote lock/unlock capabilities of the key. (DIY process as explained in
    )

Is there a non $300 way to make a fully functional spare key?

My situation is somewhat different. Both of my keys are wearing out, so I am working on getting working mechanical key at first
1) obtained a key blank with a pocket for chip in the handle from eBay
2) got estimate from hardware store ($20)
3) will either extract the chip from one of the keys and pot it (with epoxy or equivalent) in mechanical key or cut the worn out key stem and hang the makeshift fob on the ring next to mechanical key
PS if I will have commitment, I will bypass gas pump relay and try to start the car with mechanical key only. According to the electrical manual the immobilizer tells ECU to remove ground from FP relay; if this is correct, the car will start and run with flashing key icon on the instrument panel
