CV axle change - fluid loss?

Been getting an intermittent grinding noise in the left front wheel that lasts about 5-10 seconds especially after a hard turn, but only happens maybe once or twice a week. Had it up on jack stands today changing the oil and finally had a chance to check it out. No broken boots, but there seems to be significantly more play in the left CV axle than the right so believe my noise is related to that side though I'll replace both sides as it's 180K. All other front suspension components are new and solid so that's the only thing left that could be making noise.

I watched a couple videos to get some ideas since I've never done this before. One suggested draining the trans fluid. This is a manual trans and I just replaced fluid only 10K ago so I think I'll just remove the axles so it will only partially drain as needed.

My question is approximately how much fluid will I lose? I have about a half quart leftover from the last fluid change and would be nice if I could use this to top off rather than having to go to the dealer to buy another quart, especially if I end up not needing it and cannot return it.

Appreciate any feedback!

Replaced CV axles yesterday and fluid did run out of the trans but not a heavy stream. I might have lost a pint altogether. The axles were difficult to pull out of the trans though as there was no space to get a pry bar. Ended up using a strap wrench and yanked it out by hand.
