08 Fit with 154,000 miles and I did my first valve adjustment. All previous maintenance is unknown, I just bought the car 4,000 miles ago.
All the intake valves were very loose around 0.012 and the exhausts were too tight at around .006. And yes the intakes were toward the front of the car and the exhaust were towards the rear. I adjusted the intakes to 0.006 and the exhausts to .012.
For anyone else who has done their own valve adjustments does this sound normal? I was not expecting the adjustments to be that far off. The car runs great, but do you think there could be any adverse effects for the valves to be this far off? I can't believe someone could have previously adjusted these wrong.

I've read various opinions, but it is commonly suggested that intake valve clearance tends to get larger over time (due to wear) and the exhaust valve clearance tends to get smaller (due to valve seat erosion). Yours were certainly well out of spec, and it might have been neglected for a long time, or possibly done wrongly previously. Hopefully nothing bad has happened to your exhaust valves (perhaps do a compression test if you're concerned). Did you notice that it got quieter after your adjustment?
FWIW, when I did mine (not long after buying it used with 125,000 miles on the clock), 2 intake valves and 3 exhaust valves were out of spec, all of which had slightly too much clearance, but not more than 2 thou above the limit. Previous owner had adjusted the valves at least once in the past decade.
