Fiamm 74100 "El Grande" : GD3, pics & videos

So these horns seem to be pretty popular with GE folks, several people on the site here have posted about them. But I couldn't find any pictures of installation options for a GD. After installing mine today, I found that the stock location works pretty darn well - I figured I'd snap some pictures & take a few videos for people who were curious . . .

So general notes about the install - wiring was a little bit of a pain, since the diagram that comes with them isn't correct for our cars . . . I was able to figure it out thanks to CBX's reply to an install thread over on the GE subforum. The basic rundown is this: post 30 gets your fused power line from the battery, post 85 goes to a chassis ground, post 86 gets the stock signal wire, and post 87 goes out to your new horns. But even after figuring that out, I lost at least an hour messing around with a relay that I didn't know was bad. Picked up another from Radioshack for $7, and everything worked like it was supposed to.

The horns are bolted to the same bracket the stock horn was on, and the relay I just have zip-tied up to a convenient spot on the chassis. I'm a little jealous of the GE guys who can stick these puppies in without pulling the bumper, but oh well - it's not that tricky. Removing & replacing the bumper took less time than splicing & crimping the wires . . .

Oh, and yeah - I de-blinged the horns. There's some cosmetic red plastic & silver grille thingies that serve no purpose but get in the way, so I ditched them.

Autozone, Amazon . . . just about anywhere. They're cheap (like $20), but you do have to supply your own in-line fuse, wiring, and spade connectors. So unless you've got a goodly stock on hand, expect another $10-15 in that department.

1. Remove the screws in each wheel well (phillips head, 1 screw each side)

2. Remove the 8 or so clips located under the car (the ones right behind the rubber guard that hangs down)

3. Remove the 4 clips on top of the front bumper.

4. This is the scary part if youve never done it before. Pull the edges out, It will sound like clips are breaking but they are not. after that your done.

Sounds like a good old fashioned horn.

I have been thinking about a swap, but I'm toying with the idea of the Italian air horns from Griot's garage. But people on TCL who've used them love them, but find that they don't last very long.
