TPMS light on, fogs don't work, spare tire pressure

So my son put in ambient lights about 2 mos. ago...Right after that, my TPMS light went on and stayed on, it's still on. At some point I saw that my fog lights don't work. Any connection between those problems and the interior lights may be purely coincidental.

We checked the fuses and all is fine, so that's not the problem. I tried pressuring up the spare tire (for the TPMS light), but now I can't get the screw back in b/c it's larger than it was when I un-did it. you know how you have to unscrew the silver metal holder to take it out? That will no longer screw down. I have to let some pressure out unless I want to roll with more rattles from the hatch than usual....it was at 45 psi before i took it up to about 55 psi, and the TPMS light stayed on anyway.

Anyways, I was thinking of taking the car to the dealer because I don't have a bunch of money just laying around and I think these things should be on warranty, but then I wonder if they will just say because I have LED lights on the inside they don't have to honor the warranty.

What would you do?

get your son to disconnect the ambient lighting and see if that fixes it. If not take it in under warranty.

The spare tire doesn't have a tpms sensor, so I would start checking all the other tires to see if they're over 27psi. As for the ambient light thing, how did he hook that up? He could have possibly unplugged a connection and forgotten to plug it back in. My JDM footlights hooked up to the mirror switch...

How did your son install the ambient lights? Did he do it the plug and play method or have any slicing and soldering done?

Did you check the pressure in the full sized tires? The TPMS light will go off if one of those are below 28 PSI; the spare wouldn't have anything to do with this since it doesn't have a sensor. (At least mine doesn't)

If you have to go to a dealer to figure out the problem, keep this law on your mind. Basically its a law stating that a dealer cannot void your warranty if an aftermarket part is present and/or not the cause of a malfunction. Your warranty may be honored because to the best of my knowledge the lights are a Honda product for either the JDM (Japanese sepc) or CDM (Canadian spec) Fits.

Oh Hootie that's good info! Thanks! I will print that out in case they give me crap.

My psi was at about 35 all around, does that cause the TPMS sensor to stay on??? That sucks.

He plugged it into an empty fuse slot. I will check the pressure, it was OK a week or so ago but ???? who knows.

They were pretty much plug and play, although he had to connect the wires between the 2 sets, but nothing to solder into the car. I can't imagine what any of this would have done to the fogs, though. One of the lenses is cracked but even if that light blew, what would that have done to the other light?

Hootie Oct 22, 2009 12:16 PM

I'm not 100% but if I recall correctly there was a post talking about how the Fit has a feature were if one of the driving lights goes then the other one does not work; so, that may be the case here.

No, it should be off due to being over 28 PSI.

Another quick question about the TPMS. You haven't used a fix-a-flat type product in any of the tires recently have you? Have to ask because that product destroys the sensors.

MNfit Oct 22, 2009 02:14 PM

if your TMPS lights is on it means there is something wrong with the systume. If its the (!) light then one or more tires PSI has dropped to low. AS for the lights I have no idea

^ Good call, I never noticed the flat tire light till a few minutes ago.
