Roof/Bike rack for GD3?
 

Hi guys. I recently got into biking. I was wondering what are some good/cheap bike racks that I could get to fit 2 bikes. I've checked the Yakima site, and they are all like 500+ dollars. Thats more than the freaking bikes! LOL. I checked the Thule site too, but the pricing is for like the bars, and i don't really know what you need in addition to those bars.

What do you guys use, and how much did you pay? Thanks!

I had a roof rack on my civic years ago for my bikes, they made alot of noise and was difficult to remove if I didn't want it there. Trailer hitch with a rack off the back for my Fit is the was to go. I got a hitch for $80 bucks and a rack off craigslist for $30. And its easier to take off than a roof rack. Thats all you need. IMO...

Is there a reason you don't put the seats down and put them in the back? I can fit two bikes comfortably in back (road and/or mb) with the front tire off. This is free, or $25 or so depending on how "professionally" you want it set up. Works great, there's still room for gear, and no drag, or risk of failure having bikes collecting wind up top. Just a thought and a setup that's worked well for me. Good luck.

Cool. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah getting a hitch is probably the easiest. The price for those roof racks cost more than the bikes. Thats like having a super expensive designer wallet, thats worth more than whats inside it. LOL. And yeah I know I can fit them in the back. but sometimes I may need the extra seats for people. It works well. The rack can be had closer to $130 on any one of Performance's sales. Roof racks are a pain. With the hitch mount there is less drag while driving, less threat of banging the bikes on a carport or garage entrance, etc. Oh, make sure to measure bolt center to center when you get your hitch. Mine was bent but I tried it anyway. Just keep in mind that the chassy rails are parallel, so both arms of the hitch should be parallel too.
