Coil packs, O2 sensors, salvage parts & manuals
My 2008 Fit made it all the way through the 100K warranty period with only a blown front oil seal, which the dealer fixed for free. Now, at 117K the check engine light is illuminated. I took it to the dealer (by habit, I could have gone to Autozone to have the code checked) and they say the O2 sensor and coil packs need to be replaced. They want $800 to do it. They must be expensive parts and/or hard to reach.
There must be a good number of wrecked Fits in the salvage market by now. Anyone have a link to parts recycler? Or a cheap after-market source?
Has anyone published a repair manual for the Fit yet?
Thanks
Mike

There is an electronic version of the Honda Fit service manual available online somewhere on the web that my uncle stumbled upon the other day. Not sure what the name of the site is (will ask him for it) but its less than 20 bucks to download it and you'll have the exact same service manual as Honda technicians at the dealer and what is sold by Honda to the public.
Coil packs ae cheap and are a easy do it yourself kind of thing.
Replace all four of them and you will not be out more than $200.
The O'2 sensor is also not hard to replace yourself, but you do need a special tool to do it.
But auto parts places like Auto Zone have loaner tools.
The O'2 sensor should not be more than $100.

First thing, go to your local autoparts chain and buy a OBDII checker for around $50 and use it to determine what Honda says is at fault. Yeah, I know some will check for you but then you won't always be able to get to one.
1. Coil paks and new plugs are about $330 worth and you can do them yourself if you have even a small amount of DITY mechanics ability. at 100,000+ miles you certainly need them done.
2. Before replacing the O2 sensor reset the OBD codes with your checker and then drive for 20 miles or so in third gear to see if the O2 sensor is merely carboned up before replacing it tho replacement is not very difficult other than using a socket with a side port.
3. Fit manuals have been around since Fits were puppies. You can get the fancy book at a fancy price from Helms or the adobe version on ebay.
