How long did your stock clutch last??
 

Just wondering how long did your stock clutch last on your GD3? My 2008 just shifted it's last shift today, made it 101,843 miles before I couldn't shift it into gear.

Luckily I could shift into 3rd and 5th today so I drove it to a local Honda/Acura specialist garage and will be replacing it with an Exedy/Daiken clutch kit.

The damn dealership wanted $1700 to replace the clutch!!!:puke:

Getting over 100,000 miles on a clutch is great. Not too much to complain about there.

Few Qs:

What are the signs that your clutch is going out?

Does $1,700 seem over the top high or is that what Honda charges?

How much of that $1,700 is parts / labor?

100k is pretty good for a clutch. How much HWY/CTY driving do you do?

I can tell you from experience that the clutch kit is probably around $300-400 and the labor is around $1200-1300.

1. Can't shift into gears no matter how much double clutching you do.

2. $1700 is ridiculous regardless, just didn't have time to replace clutch myself.

3. Don't care since stealerships need to make money.

4. Plenty of both, lots of freeway and of course traffic.

The good part is I found a local garage to change out the clutch for $670 including the Exedy clutch kit.

That's not the most typical symptom of a worn clutch. Wear generally manifests itself as clutch slippage under load (accelerating in high gears) and possibly chatter or other difficulties when engaging.

I think difficulty shifting would more likely be due to worn synchronizers or bearings in the transmission, bent shift forks, a misadjusted shift linkage, a misadjusted clutch (not fully disengaging), some clutch hydraulic system problem, operator error, etc.

Clutch replacement is expensive largely because there's a whole lot of labor involved in getting to the clutch mechanism. (By the same token, it's usually recommended to replace the clutch if it's the least bit worn if you have to take that part of the car apart for some other reason.)

hi just want to ask some question guys..since its about clutch,i dont have problem with shifting yet..shifts good actuallly,recently got my fit a month ago, and i dont know if its normal that when im parked and idle you can hear spinning inside tranny?..not loud but you can notice when i press my clutch it turns to be quiet...is this normal to a honda fit?

when i went to dealer they said its normal..its the pressure plate that spinning..im not convinced with their answer..does the pressure plate have any sound at idle?..or tranny's are supposed to be quiet at any time?..

Clutch release bearing would be my guess.

thats my guess too..or input shaft bearing,i have the extended warranty not sure if they will cover it..

Well, I based the symptoms on my old 1995 Civic which had the same symptoms of not being able to go into any gears. My ACT clutch had a spring crack in half (sprung hub) and would not engage any gears. The Fit did not have chatter but I ruled out the hydraulic system and even checked the cables just in case.

As for the misadjusted clutch and all the other items you pointed out, I am not dismissing them but highly unlikely in my eyes. This Fit is well taken care of and maintained by me and driven daily by my wife. This is the first problem I've had since I drove it off the lot in 2008, so parts do get worn over time.

As for the labor costs, yes it is high but $1700 (dealership quote) seems completely rediculous. An Exedy clutch kit is $200 on the high side, so $1500 for labor for about a 6 hour job is completely ludicrous. Lucky for me I don't go to dealerships for cases when i do not have the time to replace it myself and find reputable Honda specialists who do the job for half the price.

I will find out what really went wrong once i get word back from the shop that the car is ready for pick up.

So I had a similar noise in my '08 sport. Could only hear it with all AC fans and radio off. A "whirring" noise at idle with the clutch out in neutral. Clutch engaged, no noise.

It turned out I had bad bearings in the transmission. Took it to Honda and had 5 transmission main bearings replaced under factory extended warranty.

I NEVER would have noticed or guessed that's what it was. I had the car get an in depth inspection before a long trip and the tech caught it and told me to take it to the dealer.

yea thats the exact same sound im hearing right now....you mean when you press the clutch right?...the shaft bearing stop spinning when i press it,

ill try diifferent dealer coz the other dealer told me they dont hear anything or their just lazy to check it...

its good that your warranty covered them i hope they covered mine too

you wouldnt noticed mine also really quiet but when you listen closely i hear that whirring sound..

did they replace your clutch too?...im thinking of replacing my clutch since they will pull out the tranny...im guessing clutch is not included with the warranty...

Honestly, I thought my tech was full of it, SUCH a quite noise, but the dealer took it apart and confirmed it. I thought maybe I had flogged it to hard, but NO WAY could I have pushed trans bearings out of alignment.

Nvillegas, the clutch is not under warranty as far as I know. What year is yours? Is is a 07-08 GD or an 09+ GE?

Mine is 08 gd..i got it used the previous owner have extended warranty for it till 100k,will it be cover since the new owner?

NO clue if the warranty is transferable or not... Either way I would find a friendly service manager at a dealer and try for it!

thats my big problem!...LOL! really hard to convince those people!
