Guys, the Honda left and right stay sets which are the hydraulic lifts that keep the tailgate open are going for about $70 each. Is there a quality aftermarket part that will do the job? Mine are shot, is this a common occurrence?

 

Well, this really depends on how much the hatch has been used (opened/closed). At work, we sell aftermarket lift supports which are around CA$30-50/each. Give a visit to your local parts store.

 

So these lifts can be relatively generic in nature and don't have to be model specific?

 

As long as the length and weight capacity specifications are the same, you'll be ok.
