Help! Wire broke off at the connector :(
 

Hello,

My 2007 Fit had the Transimission 2nd Clutch Switch fail and as I was about to replace it the wire snapped off right at the base of the weather sealed connector. I've looked online to see how how fix the connector and I haven't had any luck.

It seemed like the wire was really loosely connected/inserted so that could have been the problem from the start.

How do I safely and securely reattach the wire and the connector? Do I buy another connector or just reuse the old one?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

The nice thing about hondas is that they reuse a lot of their connectors across generations and models.

Take some detailed pictures of your connector, and go match one on another honda in a junkyard. then wire the replacement connector in.

Thank you for the quick response. I was hoping that doing that would be a last resort only because of my proximity to a junkyard. It's our only car and while it seems like it's driving fine, other than the CEL and not shifting past 3rd (which it was doing before the wire broke), it's probably best to not drive it very far.

Any way to confidently fix the existing wire and connector?

If you do not mind going ghetto to see for sure if its a wiring issue, you can opt to cut the wires, crimp on a female spade connector, and push them over the prongs of the sensor/switch.

This I would NOT expect to last long term. I would only recommend doing this to verify it is indeed the wiring and not the switch or something else.


If you do do this, keep track of what wire goes where, no need to screw soemthing up accidentally!


If it works, drive to the junkyard and get that connector asap!

Is there no way to fix the original wire and connector?

I believe that you can undo the connector and get the metal connectors out of the plug. You will need a small tool to get the metal connector out. From the connecting side of the plug you can 'unhook' the pin. If your lucky you can reuse the pin. If you can't reuse the pin, I believe you can by them from auto stores.
