Valve Adjustment?

I may be fretting here, but what is "noisy valves"?
How loud?

*With hood closed, engine running, standing in front of car:
Engine is very quite except for a faint ticking.

Valve adjustment???

nope, the ticking is perfectly normal. If you have bouts of stalling, you probably need the valves adjusted. If your car is over 75,000 miles, you will need to have them adjusted at some point. What is your mileage, and what model year is your Fit?

rattlinbg, clattering or NO sound on one or more valves are noisy. It takes experience to 'hear' noisy valves so its a good thing to check valve clearances every 25,000 miles unless they get other than a steady light clicking. But if one gets quiet it may not be heard and that is destruction in the making; thats why valve checks are important.
BTW when a valve gets quiet it mens theres no gap and thus that valve isn'y fully closed. Guess what, its a valve burning from exhaust gases slipping by and will need replacing or even breaking a piece to fall into the combustion chamber. Either way its expensive !
the clearances are printed on a label under the hood.

On modern engines, the faint ticking you hear could be from injectors opening and closing.

The factory specifies checking valve lash at 100K miles ("or if noisy") but usually the valves tighten so they are quiet while they burn...I've been checking mine every 50K miles. (Once so far, with another check this summer.)

The 50K operation was well worth it BTW, many of the clearances were out of spec.

Thank you.
I got this one used with 100000 mi on it(very clean), so I don't know if the valves were ever adjusted.

I used to adjust my own valves on other cars, so I may want to do mine.
Question - Do the gaskets need to be replaced(intake & etc)>

When I did mine @ 50K miles I didn't need any gaskets. You DO need a couple drops of a sensor-safe RTV for the valve cover "corners".

Thank you!

How do you turn the crankshaft by hand?

First, you need to obtain a tame GORILLA. With sticky fingers! :rotfl:

No Wait, it is easier :eek3: to use a 19mm ratchet on the crankshaft bolt.

To access the bolt, place the car on safety stands, remove the RF wheel, and either place the rachet/extention through the "Starburst" access hole, or (Easier) move the splash shield out of the way by removing the two plastic anchors. (This requires two small flat screwdrivers...pry the center "button" up about 1/4", then you can pull the entire anchor out)

:p
