Slight ticking noise from slightly above idle to 1050 RPM only. Any thoughts?

Hey all!

So, recently I've replaced my exhaust to a Megan Racing exhaust. Everything but the stock catalytic converter is on my car. There's a header, midpipe, and new axleback muffler.

Anyway, I discovered after the work was done that there is a slight clicking sound slightly above idle as I'm getting onto 1st gear. It lasts a VERY short time, from about 950-1050 RPM and then disappears. I've put the car in Neutral to see if the click stopped and it does. So, my next guess is that I have a slightly worn clutch that is having trouble grabbing onto the gear at those low speeds and am considering replacing it.

Would you all be able to help me with some ideas as to what it is? I know it's not a valve click, because it comes from lower on the engine, and I'm pretty sure it's not exhaust related because it didn't make the noise in Neutral. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Corey

Exhaust leak maybe

Edit: had one on my previous Forester XT. I replaced the turbo and uppipe and first test drive after lead to a very annoying ticking noise.

Yeah, an exhaust leak would sound like a 'tick'. BTDT when I helped install a supercharger on a pickup tow vehicle.

Engine load and RPM makes a difference in how the sound is heard.

I'd double check fastener torque, especially at the header.

Hopefully you haven't stretched or broken a head stud.
