08 HonFit Won't Start--not the battery!
 

I own a 2008 Honda Fit 5 speed.

Couldn't get it to start this morning and have been having issues with this for about a week. The weird part is that before when it wouldn't start if I moved the steering wheel around or open and slammed the door shut, it would turn over no problem and start right up. Eventually, I had to slam the door harder and move the wheel around more aggressively, and now there is nothing I can do to get it to start.

The battery is brand new and when I turn it over, nothing lights up, there isn't a clicking like a dead battery, and the brakes and power locks aren't operating either.

I have always had troubles inserting the key into the driver side door, but only within the last month have I been unable to get the key into the slot AT ALL. --I don't know if this is related??

Has anyone had this issue? What do I do? How much is this going to cost....?? Please help.

Do you use steering column tilt?
(I am guessing wires at ignition switch)

I do use the steering wheel tilt. How would i check that?

Remove steering column cover Use plastic trim tool ("nylon chisel") to pry the upper half up, then remove Phillips screws to detach lower half from the steering column
check ignition switch connector
wiggle wires while trying to start the engine

I would check that the battery cables are tight on the battery posts, and that the ground connection at the other end of the negative battery cable is solid and firmly attached. No guarantee that this is your problem, but it certainly can cause that sort of general symptom.

If the battery cable clamps are loose and can't be tightened any more with their bolts, you can get or make some shims to go between the clamp and the battery post. Copper flashing or a piece of a metal beer/soda can would work OK. There are also commercial shims available at auto parts stores (and they aren't very expensive).

My suggestion is to re-seat the relays in the control center under the hood & dash...

Sounds like your ignition switch is sticking. Open the steering column and jump the switch to test it. If the car cranks every time, replace the switch.

Similar thing happened to me. Turned out the clutch safety switch wasn't closing properly when the clutch was depressed. Look for it under the dash on the left-hand side of the clutch pedal. Try pushing on it a number of times with your finger. Also, you an try to put shim on the clutch pedal pad to make sure the little plunger is depressed. You can also adjust the position of the switch with the appropriate wrenches.
