If no Fits, then what?

Hello all,

I'm curious what people would like that would replace their beloved Fit. Lets say all the Fits in the world just stopped running. No you can't put another engine in it. They just turned to stone. So what would be Plan B?

For me it would be a Mazda5. My only requirement would be a manual trans. To me the Mazda5 and the Fit are pretty similar.

I keep wanting to pull the trigger on a Miata, but I don't like the newest one, and I am not comfortable buying used things.

A friend has a Mazda 2 (or 3?) with a manual transmission, and she has had good luck with it.

Without a single doubt...

new Civic Type R.

But my Fit is running perfectly adequately & I have my S2000, so why spend the money on a car that's still less fun than my hobby car?

Probably a Civic hatchback to replace the fit's commuter duties. It gets nearly as good mileage, more powerful motor, a bit bigger and still pretty good cargo capacity

the question is wat to do if there as no Fit, right? wats with the s2k and civic hb? cant carry much of anything in those cars, no? :D

if sticking with honda i would get the CRV, if other brands id look at the subaru impreza wagon. if keeping at the GK's budget might even look at the versa note if they still make those things. not sure, im not a nissan guy..

I don't need a ton of space very often, thankfully. Fit goes under utilized in my hands to be honest.

Same! :yeahthat:

my main considerations:

1) Cost
2) Reliability
3) Mpg

Toyota Yaris iA sedan

$18k, very reliable, 40 mpg, and has a trunk (I think I'm done with hatchbacks)

mike - yah, in your case you have a Fit and an s2k so you are covered in both departments.. utility when needed and sports driving. very ideal situation for sure.

but when most folks buy a Fit i dont think they buy it for sports driving, but rather for the utility and economy. cause it literally 'fits' into their daily lives.

i have a GK cause my wife carries a lot of stuff for work and i borrow it once a while to carry my wheels to the tire shop. :D and with my bigger kids now, they frikken eat like crazy so our groceries takes up ALL available trunk space every week.

so if there was no Fit, id be looking for a car with lots of cargo space and utility.. id get the subaru impreza wagon as first choice probably. and CRV as my second. if not those two, would look at more luxury mini suv's.

I usually don't need a ton of cargo room either, but when I do it's nice how much I can "FIT"

I needed some scrap wood for a project, and I was able to snag a couple pallets at work. Not sure I'd be able to pull that off with a sedan as easily.

kenchan 01-02-2018 08:11 PM

yah, its definitely good to have that knowledge you CAN fit stuff in your car and drive home.

opens up opportunities.

Have to throw out the VW Golf as a possibility since we bought one to replace the daily duties of our Fit.

Under $20k gets you more amenities, power, finesse, 4 wheel disc brakes, etc in a hatchback. Less cargo space and fuel economy, but more of everything else.

The Corolla iM maybe gets more of everything?

kenchan 01-04-2018 06:29 PM

thought i read you tossed your Golf in the trash. lol ;)

I have about a year until our fit gets handed down to our first teen driver, so this is a question that I've been thinking about a lot. I'm a big boy, so probably would sacrifice some MPG for comfort. We chose the Fit over the Civic because of the head room, so no Civic. There's a lot of 10 year old, high milage-but spotless Pilots floating around right now. That might be where I go next.

derykisonder 01-05-2018 09:45 PM

What about an Accord Sport? It has a good amount of head room and it's a mixture of comfort and MPG

Good choice, OP. I have the best of both worlds - 2007 Honda Fit Sport 5MT and 2014 Mazda5 Sport 6MT!

Unfortunately, the Mazda5 has been discontinued and the MT was last available in 2014.

I think a good replacement if you have the extra money would be a FoST, FiST, or GTI. But they are all more expensive than a Fit!

I loved my Fit so much. It was so fun to drive and very practical for everyday use. That being said my Miata was a great change and has replaced the Fit for fun driving. As fun as my Fit is with the added power of the K24 it’s fun still can’t compete with the enjoyment of driving at two seat roadster. Driving around on a nice summer day with the top down is great

n9cv 01-09-2018 06:07 AM

I was thinking maybe a Schwinn or Road Master. Otherwise I'll fix the Fit. If someone built it once I'll find a way to get it going again.

Thanks and I'm envious!

Please feel free to share your impressions on the Mazda5! :popc:

I had a chance to drive a 5sp MT 2012. THought it felt pretty nice driving it. Is there a forum that you could recommend? I'd like to learn a little more on them. Did Mazda do what Honda did on the 6sp?
