Any suggestions on a repair for a key fob?

Hello all,

Looks like my key fob finally succumbed to repeated drops! The electronics and buttons still works, but the body is in pieces. Looks like if I had a replacement body I could repair this. The metal key part is fine as is all the buttons. Just the body is wasted. This was a replacement that was programed from my original key. I still have my original key, but I don't like having one key. I haven't tried contacting the company that programed and cut this broken key. Thought I'd see what is suggested here first.

Here's a couple of pics of the key in question. I edited out some of the numbers above the date. My apologizes if I screwed up the posting on the pics :o

ebay sells blanks, and/or just the casing for sale.

Like what he said above. Or if your really particular about wear and tear, you can always find brand new blanks and swap over your internal pieces

Thanks for the replies! I never knew these key fobs were so generic. Makes sense, but didn't think they did it that way. I ended up finding a couple of blanks at my current favorite outlet, Walmart. They look like they'll work, just hoping they have some strength to them

xxryu139xx,

Can you give me any info on the fog lights you have on your Fit? Maybe a link? I'm starting to search on replacement lights as one of my lights is out and the other is cracked.

There are several cheap chinese mail order places that will make a "laser cut" key (actually CNC horizontal milling machine, not laser) from a photo of your key. Then you just swap the remote and transponder chip. Unfortunately, it's kind of difficult to fit the already cut key blade into a new case, because of the way the base is moulded, but you can always keep it for a low-risk concealed emergency key that won't allow the engine to be started for when you lock the working key in the car. If one corner on the module is cut out, like yours is, the transponder chip is probably separate. If it's round on both sides, the chip is inside the module and just the module needs to be swapped. I just ordered a switchblade key, to save my pockets from being punctured by the long key blade. I'll let you know how it works once it arrives.
