Your Favorite Brake Pads?

My 08 bought in October has tons of front brake dust on the front wheels that accumulates quickly, has a little squeak now at very slow idling to takeoffs, and the left side caliper is covered in rust...

It seems the brakes are straightforward, do I pay a few hundred or DIY? have the tools and have done it on other vehicles.

Is there a good quality brake pad that doesn't dust as much? Is it worth getting a new caliper--or can I repaint the old ones?

The OEM pads don't dust TOO much.

A ceramic pad (I like Akebono brand) dust very little, with no noticeable difference in street driving. Cost is about the same online.

As long as your calipers are working OK, (the RH one is suspect since it seems only the LH one is dusting/working) I recommend G2 caliper paint.

Easy to apply (with a brush, no masking) and ours has held up for 12 years on our CR-V and Fit.

OEM pads! They fit perfectly and give same brake performance! (My last OEM set lasted close to 45 k miles with abusive braking)

+1 on the Akebono. I've had them installed at Pep Boys and they are terrific

Thanks for the replies..both sides dust the same, heavily. The previous owner was a cheapskate based on other things, wouldn’t be surprised he had the cheapest pads installed.

My 04 civic pads lasted at least 100k miles when Isold it..honda oem pads are great, just wantd less dust than what’s on there now, with same or better performance.

the caliper needs painted and the drums around the hubs are rusty..

I've tried Akebono pads and I must say I prefered the OEM pads a little bit more. They seemed to have a bit more bite than the Akebonos. However, the preformance of the Akebonos is close to OEM and I am satisfied with their quality and fitment.
