Only aftermarket accessory is a remote starter, installed by the dealer when the car was brand new.

In the summer, I can leave the car parked for many days without issue.

I also own a Honda Accord, which can stay for 2 whole weeks in the cold, and still start easy when needed...

What was Honda thinking by using the 151R battery in cold climate??

 

So you should have one extra of each 5505 and 5515, but black instead of red. Would you like to sell them?

 

Hey Canucks. I just had my stock battery replaced at the dealer. I missed the two year full replacement wty but did get 60% off. So if your battery is not that old I would keep nagging Honda to replace it and make sure to get discount or full replacement.

I had the battery replaced two years ago but in that two years I managed to kill it a few times with wiring projects. I suspect this led to its' early demise.

 

Car did not start again this morning... Was last driven on Saturday PM!

Stupid battery!

 

Went to Mexico last week. The Fit sat in the airport garage at ~70 degrees for 7 days, and would not start when I came back. Luckily, my father in law also came with his car so he could boost me. That does it for me: tomorrow morning, I'm going to Honda and won't leave until they change the battery. At least I should get through the rest of winter with a new 151R battery. Then this summer or fall, I'll do the switch to the 51R battery for next winter.

 

i keep my oem 151r battery in the garage. i keep it charged with the tender and use it as a battery booster/jumper.

 

Well...couldn't even start the car this morning. Battery has been connected to a charger during the last three days...
This is proof that my battery is defective and needs to be replaced. Will have the car towed to the dealer today.
Everything should be free (under warranty)

 

not really Frenzal. I thought the same when I started having problems with my 151r and then the 51r battery. Turns out my Big 3 Battery Ground has started to come loose from the chassis and some wires became frayed and exposed. Jumping the battery was erratic. It would only start if i put the jumper ground somewhere on the chassis. I cleaned up the wire and tightened it. No problems anymore.

 

Finally, dealer replaced the battery. Battery was defective and had some bad cells in it, so I was maybe on 9/10 or 4/5 (or maybe less) of the battery.

Car is cranking fine now. In fact, it has been a long time since I heard it crank that way.
Might postpone the 51R swap when this new battery is dead. But at least I'll be ready with all the necessary parts!

Ryu: Really a good idea to check grounds in fact...but since my car is only 1.5 years old, everything should be OK on that side (at least for now).

 

The Slight Angle installation seems to work fine. I removed the small battery with a tray changed the air filter put the 51R battery slightly sideways added battery terminal shim to the positive terminal. Tie the battery down. Started just fine -10F. Honda Fit Sport 2009.

 

Whats the reason behind using a different battery that was meant or the Fit?

To be prepared when I'll do the swap to the 51R battery, I just bought a 00 Civic battery tray (00 Civics used the 51R battery).
Part number is 31521-SR3-000 and costs about 12$ (here in Canada, so you US folks should pay around half of that!)

When I do the install, I'll remove the Fit battery tray and cover, then lay a thin rubber on the car battery base (which is metal), then the Civic battery tray, then the battery. Should be a really clean install!

Thanks, Black3SR. It looks like a decent method, although, it also seems easy to slip with the rotor (a tool I don't have) and cut a hole into the plastic cover . . . ha, so to set myself up for success, I am leaning towards the method that the OP shared.

 

Your welcome and good luck with the switch. I have used my Dremel a lot so not too worried about cutting through.

 

Finally done it this weekend.

Used the under tray from a 00 Civic, with two layers of rubber underneath. Wasn't able to connect the + cable, would not fit. Used the cable I bought, and all went smooth.
