GE8: Tanabe T70143A Medalion Touring Axle Back Exhaust
 

Would anyone happen to have this exhaust installed on their GE8 that lives in the Raleigh, NC or surrounding area?


I would like to ride in your car to see how loud it is.

That exhaust is mellow. If you want quiet, MEGAN RACING has a good one. I'm going for the Tanabe unit fo me. Also ride in a car that has same transmission as your car. M/T seems to have a droning at highway speeds.

Thanks for the info. Leaning towards the HKS (HKS 32003-BH005 Hi-Power Exhaust) as I think it is a lighter unit and it does not have any highway drone (but apparently does have low RPM drone). Its cheaper to boot. It seems somewhat quiet on Youtube. So does the Tanabe but think the Tanabe might have highway drone but no low RPM drone. Pick your poison I guess. Lightness (I think) and cheaper with roughly equivalent quietness is steering me to HKS.

I have been told by an Tanabe Touring Medallion owner that the HKS is louder than his.

As for the Megan Racing, there is only 1 nine second clip online of the sound and it sounds REALLY raspy. I would be cautious, but it is the cheapest option.

Tanabe has no drone ever, it was a great exhaust when I had it

Never heard the Megan but I don't trust the quality of their stainless. After 1.5 years my Tanabe looked brand new when I sold it

Bought Tanabe. Plan to install it this Saturday. Will do 5-60 MPH times. If it isn't faster, does not stay on car.

if you dont have header/downpipe/b-pipe, itll make no gain.

Will confirm.


Tanabe says it makes more power otherwise they would not have made it. My 5-60 MPH informal and unscientific runs have served me well so far. Will know if it makes any more HP on my Fit soon.

Butt dyno will see an increase, that is just as important as actual dyno in my book :wiggle:

Yeah, I love that pushed back in the seat, hold on feeling and get ready to shift, the red line is coming up fast anxiety.

Just installed this exhaust.


The Good:


(put rear tires on car stands, put rocks under front tires to hold car in place)
unscrew 2 bolts
spray silicon lubricant on the exhaust hangers then pull the ones attached to the car off the car (exhaust hangers still on the exhaust)
Got it done in less than 1 hour
It was fairly easy
The exhaust has a nice rumble, if you like that kind of thing and it isn't too loud.
Informally weighed both the stock and Tanabe exhausts - they came out within a pound of each other so no weight saving here (at least the Tanabe isn't significantly heavier, might be slightly lighter)


The Bad:

Disconnected battery for a minute or so to reset the ECU of car.
Did my 5-60 MPH runs and still getting 9.1 secs -same as with the stock exhaust on. (have the HPS intake (HPS 27-102P) installed which knocked off 1.4 secs from stock)





Figure the Tanabe exhaust will not make more HP in the future. Its expensive (nearly $400), makes more noise (bad in my case) and does not make more HP so don't see a reason to keep it. Do not plan on doing any more exhaust mods (headers, b-pipe, etc). Take the money from the Tanabe refund and invest it in Denso IK22 #5310 spark plugs, Indexed and perhaps a Jet MAS. These mods will not make more noise and hopefully make more HP.

Ok i'm gonna school you a sec. I'm not talking down to you but some car owners that think certain mods will automatically give gains is so WRONG. So im gonna use the human body to help make some sense into this. Warning: this will come as gross or morbid but were all adults here.

Think of your cars intake/exhaust as a human digestive system. Just making your mouth (intake) be able to feed more wont give gains because throat (downpipe) cant handle getting the food down easier. Nor will the stock size mid-pipe (intestines). The to put an axle back exhaust (butthole). It just wont work dude until you enlarge everything intake/dp/mid-pipe/axle-back. Then you def will have gained. You currenT set-up is a noise maker. To sound fast. so take your time. Don't return it. Once you get dp and b-pipe, you'll be smiling from ear to ear as you spray VTEC...LOL.

I really like how you are testing each of your mods and posting up your before and after time evaluation. It's a lot of work. Just letting you know some of us appreciate your effort and it will be valuable to other's when they see this info in the future.

No, no longer have it.

It is easy to install, has a nice rumble and not overly loud. My 5-60 MPH runs weren't any quicker though with it so got rid of it. Don't want loud without more measurable power increase. HPS short ram intake took 1.4 secs off my 5-60 MPH runs. That, index spark plugs Denso IK22s, 195x50x16 tires (lighter) enable my 2010 Honda Fit Sport Manual USA spec to run 5-60 MPH in the low 9 sec range. Wanted the exhaust to break into the 8s but no dice.

Thanks for the reply. I did end up getting it and installing it. I'd have to say that the sound that it makes is very subtle and that it pretty much enhances the sound that my K&N intake already made. As for power, by butt dyno did notice a slight difference. My 2010 Fit seems slightly more eager and less lag between the time that i press the gas and the car accelerates. My wife, which was the biggest critic on this upgrade was quite impressed. So everything's a win win. Thanks everyone on the forum for the help. I did A LOT of reading here before making my decision!

Nice, can't wait to install mine. It just arrived today. Figure its pretty straight forward, couple bolts holding the stock muffler to the piping and a hanger or two. Do I just reuse the flange gasket? My tanabe doesnt have a new gasket because I got it 2nd hand/used. Maybe I'm over thinking it. =)
