My Civic Si Resonator & Muffler with 2 1/4in Custom Stainless Steel Piping

Today I finally install my Civic Si Resonator & Muffler with 2 1/4in Stainless Steel Cat Back Custom Piping.

I did it at Bob's Muffler in Bakersfield,
it was a 170 miles drive one way from my home,
but worth it !

All the piping are mandrel bent, service is good and price is very reasonable.

Here is the details:
I bought a brand new Genuine OEM Honda Civic Si Coupe (2006 - 2011) Muffler, Part# 18307-SVB-A03 from Bernardi Parts.

I bought a Genuine OEM Honda Civic Si Coupe 2013 resonator (USED) from eBay:

First they take off all the stock resonator and muffler.

They cut off all the piping from the Civic Si Muffler and Resonator to test fit,
at first they doubt both the muffler and resonator can fit,
but later we tried again with all the piping cut off, and it FIT but it is a really TIGHT FIT for our Honda FIT :)

They don't have the Honda flange to connect to the second cat, so they cut the flange from
my original Honda Fit resonator and weld it. All piping are 2 1/4in Stainless Steel, Mandrel Bent.
Install the Resonator from Honda Civic Si below:

Now the piping from resonator to muffler, and it will be another flange connection.
I ask them to weld the nut onto the flange so when I unbolt it, I just turn the bolt
without having to hold the nut since it is welded to the flange:

Driving impression,
The acceleration from 60mph above are much faster then before.
The main reason I do this modification is because
I think the Sprintex supercharger will require less back pressure.
Gary install his shop Honda Fit with 2 1/4in piping and experience good result,
so I am following his foot step.

The sound is very very very deep at idle.,
starting 2,500 rpm to about 4,000 rpm it is a bit too loud for my taste,
hopefully I will get used to this,...

Strangely above 5,000 rpm it sound very similar to stock exhaust.

Please note that the Civic Si Coupe 2013 resonator that I used
are True Straight Trough design !!!

The Civic Si Coupe 2012 Muffler though are Baffled design (not straight through)...

Ok, one more step needed before Sprintex completed...
now on to the next step :)

Hello Myxalplyx,

It did take a lot of work, and about 6 hours of custom work for the muffler shop.

Did you still utilize the double resonator on your exhaust?
From your experience which one dampened more sound,
the Vibrant or the Xlerator?

I am thinking of adding another resonator,
Was adding another resonator make it much quieter in your case?
or it make much more deeper tone (in your case)?

Today I decided to add another resonator to my custom exhaust system.
I want my exhaust to sound quieter yet deep.
so I bought a Dynomax Race Bullet Resonator/Muffler from Amazon:

I also adjust the FLANGE between the B Pipe and the Muffler because
it is hitting the body when there is bump so the muffler shop move it back.
This time I use Rogers Muffler in Fontana since I don't have time to drive
to Bakersfield today.

Rogers Muffler are very friendly and do a good job too !
I also ask Sparky (Roger's brother) to move my exhaust tips more inward
about 1/2 inches because it was sticking out a bit too much for me.

The Exhaust sound is very nice !!!

It is VERY DEEP TONE from idle and STAY DEEP to upper RPM,
not loud at all !!!

Again this is Great in term of Sound and Performance for me.
The exhaust tips is also PERFECT now.

The only thing that bothers me are the ground clearance are very low now,
and this new resonator easily hit the speed bump...
but perhaps after few big hits, it will be dent enough to clear the speed bump hahaha...

Alright Alpina, you've sparked my interest (like you always do). The current exhaust setup I have is very nice sounding in my personal opinion, and it was dirt cheap for a greddy exhaust. My questions for you are: can you make a video or sound clip so I can hear it? Also, how much did this cost you total? And thanks for posting this thread, very informative and I'm impressed that you keep coming up with ideas like these.

The cost:
a. Used 2013 Honda Civic Si Coupe resonator from eBay: $30
b. Brand New 2010 Honda Civic Si Coupe Muffler from Bernardi Parts: $152.93
c. Install at first muffler shop with 2 1/4in Stainless Steel Mandrel Bent Piping: $330
d. Dynomax 24234 Race Bullet Muffler at Amazon: $51.83
e. Install Dynomax at second muffler shop: $130
Total $694.76

Please note that it wasn't that loud without the Dynomax,
Infact it is most likely the same loudness as a normal axle back system
Oh, I also have the T1R Down Pipe, that is why it is louder,
if you don't have any Down Pipe than you don't need third resonator at all.
it is just that I really like my car to be quiet with just a slight hint of very deep tone,
so I install the Dynamax and now it is just a bit louder to stock sound and very deep tone, to describe it, it sound like a 6 cylinder BMW inline six now.

That mean most likely you will only spend total of $512.93 without the third resonator (Dynamax).
And if you can get USED Civic Si muffler on eBay with good price, it would bring the price even lower, or finding a place that will install cheaper.

If I can get the sound of an M4 I'd be fine with that :thumbups: Also if I did end up going this route (who knows if I will) I most likely won't need 2 1/4in piping since I won't have money for an S/C for centuries... So maybe $200 or so? That's not bad at all. Thanks for the info.

Congrats on you finding the sound you were looking for. Glad to see (or hear in this case ;) ) that it all worked out for you.

I had an Ultra quiet resonator, Xcellerator muffler and Max Flo Pro muffler. This was all a single pipe, in that order. Was still a bit to loud for me (Only because I drive my family around with it). Otherwise, I was cool with it.

You seem to have nailed it though. I won't be surprised if other people follow your lead. I love Dynomax mufflers. I have a Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler on my Subaru and Rav4.

Today I install The Torque Solution Harder Polypropylene Bushing/Hanger,
I was planning to install it with the Magnaflow Direct Fit Catalytic Converter,
but there is delay on that part, and I can't wait because my exhaust move too much and hit speed bump a lot...

When I took off the original rubber mount and when I install this Torque Solution one, I apply a lot of Silicone Lubricant, and it is still hard to slip out/in...

Also the original bushing size is 9mm but I bought the 10mm one...
and turn out that is the right choice, there is no way you can install the Torque Solution if you choose the 9mm one...
actually the ebay store that I bought this from, make a mistake and send 1 piece in 12mm one which is another blessing in disguise because the hardest one to mount due to the location is the one just above the exhaust tips, and that one I use the 12mm one....

Also on the 90 degree flip one, I do not use the Torque solution mounting holes but I use the center holes because the Torque solution one is too long here are the pictures starting with the 90 degree flip one:

The Torque Solution one is much more rigid,
once I install all of them, I try to shake my exhaust pipe and it barely move now...
also even the torque solution is slightly longer but it do not expand as long as the rubber under load so the end result is I have a bit more ground clearance now which is Perfect :thumbups:

Today, I decided to take out the Vibrant resonator (between the secondary catalytic converter), and replace it back with the Dynomax bullet resonator that I had before simply because I like the deeper Dynomax sound better than the higher pitch Vibrant.
I was having ground clearance problem with the Dynomax because
The Dynomax had larger diameter of 4in while Vibrant was 3.5in, but since I just raise my suspension about 10mm to 12mm, the Dynomax should not have problem anymore, plus in the future I plan to replace my current tire size 215/40ZR18 with 225/40ZR8 which has 4mm taller sidewall, so the Dynomax should have even more clearance.

I also want to replace the small 1 3/4 exhaust flange that connect to the secondary catalytic output with the true 2 1/4" exhaust flange in preparation for the new Noblesse pipe (which I will add HJS Catalytic 200cell high flow converter).
The Noblesse test pipe is a 2 inch pipe with 2 1/4" compatible exhaust flange,
so this should remove the last bottle neck in my exhaust system.

The1 3/4" flange that I replace was from the original OEM Honda Fit B-Pipe because
at that time the first exhaust shop that did my cat back system do not have a larger size flange.

This new upgrade include 304SS Stainless Steel piping, TIG welding on all the joint except the last joint to the resonator is MIG so we don't have to take down the rest of the exhaust, I also add a Stainless Steel AEM sensor bung for future sensor:

Notice the AEM Stainless Steel Bung for future sensor but currently being plugged, also notice the new THICK Stainless Steel Triple Bolt Flange that connect to the outlet of the Catalytic Converter with pure 2 1/4" piping from the flange to the Dynomax Resonator so no more bottle neck, much nicer:

I Install one out of 3 Kakimoto Earth Ground that I bought a while ago, I will install the other 2 after I install my Noblesse with HJS Cat probably in a month or 2.

My Dynomax resonator gave me problem with ground clearance,
and the Honda Civic Si Resonator hit the frame and cause vibration,
so I go back to the exhaust shop again,
while we lift the car up,
we realized that all we have to do was just move the Dynomax Bullet muffler
behind the Honda Civic Si resonator and just take off the Dynomax Mini Bullet muffler currently there, and we should have much more ground clearance.
I also ask for the exhaust shop to hammer (yes really hammer) the Civic Sir Resonator to make if flat bottom so it have more ground clearance,
and the result is now Perfect sound and Perfect Ground Clearance :D

This modification really make a lot of different in power delivery !

No hesitation anymore from lower rpm to higher rpm.

Torque is immediate from stop,
Acceleration at freeway speed from 70mph above really much faster now...

I guess the combination of larger Noblesse pipe
and 200cpsi High Flow HJS Cat really free up the flow,
no more bottle neck yet still keep the torque available,
this finally eliminate the last bottle neck in my 2.25in exhaust system.
actually I feel more torque now down low...

What amazing is the sound loudness stay almost the same but it's deeper and fuller now !

Basically this configuration is the same in concept/configuration as HKS Metal Catalyzer for CR-Z

I wonder how better this will become if I re-tune my car :D
