DIY: 09 Honda Accord's Horn Upgrade
This is easy and can be done within 15 minutes. The 09 Accord's horn is much louder than the rinkydink Fit's horn. No longer where you'll be laughed at when they hear a freight train coming.:rotfl:
Materials needed: - Flat head screwdriver - 12mm Socket & Ratchet. - 09 Accord's Horn (Part #38100-STK-A02) - 15 Minutes. First remove these 8 Clips using a flathead screw driver to get access to the stock horn. http://i40.tinypic.com/2wf7otu.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2rlzuw9.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/a1j0k.jpg Once you remove the panel, you have to remove these 2 clips in order to get to the 12mm bolt that's holding the horn. http://i40.tinypic.com/x4rqkj.jpg Then remove the 12mm bolt http://i39.tinypic.com/16is8dt.jpg 09 Accord's Horn vs. Stock 09 Fit http://i39.tinypic.com/29qb0bk.jpg Put everything back together & voila, easiest upgrade ever. http://i41.tinypic.com/whz4n6.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/10hvfas.jpg |
One suggestion . . .
For people with big hands, I recommend removing the plastic grille with the "H" emblem. Just a couple more clips and 2 screws.
It made it a whole lot easier for me! I don't have big hands, but I was also doing the billet grille installation in conjunction with this. |
I guess no one want this DIY, i'm going to delete it.

No, make it a sticky. This is good info. I'm going to see about installing my air horns in place of stock horn. Plus it looks like I can get in behind the lower grille and do a little cleaner install on the mesh I'm using to protect my A/C condenser from rock damage. Thanks.

I'm going to turn my meep meep into a HONK HONK

Did the mod today, thanks for the writeup. Some important things to note:
-The 8 clips from the large panel are NOT all the same. There are 6 small and 2 large clips. Make sure you take note of where the large ones go... they are a few millimieteres deeper. I believe they go in the far right/left positions, but always double-check! -When you remove the smaller panel (2 clips), it is practically impossible to do it without breaking the clips. In fact, College Hills Honda knows this because they are including 2 new clips with the new horn when you order it! -The Accord horn needs to be installed with the 'opening' facing down, so that there is no risk of water ever getting in there, and STAYING in there. -Because of the above, the connector of the horn will remain on the left side when you install it (not on the right as the original is located). So, you will have to pull on the wire to give it some slack or it won't reach. If you try to be 'smart' and install the horn the other way around (connector towards right, hole still facing down) it will be hitting the radiator, so this is really not a good move. No more meep meep!!!! |
Sound clips anyone?
|
I could use one of these. I about got run off the road a couple weeks ago because the semi couldn't hear my horn.
|
Do it! It's the easiest mod ever... make sure you buy the horm from CollegeHills Honda, because they include the 2 clips that will SURELY break when you remove one of the small panels. I guarantee it!
Here's a clip from collegehills shoeing the install procedure and the sound of both horns... DIYHonda.com Video Podcasts: Episode #156 - 2nd Generation Honda Fit Horn Upgrade Installation

|
i just did this tonight. super easy. took me like 20 mins. very loud now. hahaha. HUGE difference.
|
Strange thing is, the alarm 'horn' is still the old weak meep meep sound.... wtf! There must be a second smaller horn somewhere in there!
|
I you're going to go to all the trouble of removing these parts, why not put in an air horn?

Just ordered the Accord horn from hondapartsnow.com
I'll do the horn upgrade at the same time I install my new billet grille. myke |
Good DIY...thank you...a sure fire upgrade for me!
|
Just installed it..those clips are a pain! But the horn sounds great! I was a little worried at first when i plugged it in and it didn't work...but when i bolted it in the horn went HONK HONK!! YAY!
|
College Hills Honda did not send me any additional clips when they sent me my horn. I installed it today and the horn was super easy to install. I did the horn and the mesh guard to protect the engine.
Needless to say the clips were jacked up and now I need to find some new ones. Anyone have any idea on the price for those? I think I want the dealer to put the clips in. It was a massive hassle. |
