Removing the tailgate garnish
Has anyone remove this piece before?
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/9...ategarnish.jpg If so was it difficult? Do you do it from the inside of the hatch? |
You have to unfasten one bolt from the inside. Take off the plastic piece on the inside of the hatch, and you will see the bolt on the right side as you are looking at the inside of the hatch. After that, firmly pull on the garnish and the clips will pop out. Good luck.

Thank you so much!

Please post a photo after you're done! I am not fond of this plastic piece either.

Was there ever a more thorough write up on this? I’d really like to get this piece painted to match the rest of the car if it’s not too crazy expensive…. I never understood why it was black to begin with, especially considering that the corresponding part on the Gen 1 fits was body-colored… strange…

Sorry, never did this cause I had a my baby born, and well that takes up most of the time for now. I still have the rear hatch piece and still plan on doing it, just not at this time.

With a two-year-old and one more on the way, trust me, I can relate....

For Sale?
Since you're not using it, would you be interested in selling the rear garnish piece?

Has anyone managed to do a "How to" for this- pref with pics?

I filled mine the other day and let me just say removing it is a HUGE pain. The clips holding it to the tailgate are easily the strongest parts on the car. I cannot imagine why Honda insisted on using these specialized clips on what's essentially a styling accessory. I ended up snapping one of the clip holders on in the process of removing the piece.
My advice, make sure you have some long and curved needle-nose pliers and remove the clips from inside the tailgate. |
