IASCA car audio install

I just picked up a 09 Honda Fit Sport to replace my old Lexus for my daily driver and to compete in IASCA.
So far I've been mulling over mounting locations for the amps and subs.

As for the front speakers, im planing on going 3way active with mids/tweets on A pillars and Midbass on kicks.

Equipment so far...
Clarion DRZ9255
ADS P840 and P2110
Scan Illuminator 1" tweets
Peerless 830986 3" mids
SEAS W18NX 7" MBs
Undecided for subs.

First things first, this car can use a lot of sound dampening.
I purchased Cascade VB-2HD and VB-4 so far. Im going to use these products along with some leftover dynamat, ensolite, and foam from different companies.
I began taking the Fit apart this past weekend :D

This is my daily driver and eventually is going to replace my old Lexus for IASCA comps.

Note that square hole in the second picture, Im thinking of building an enclosure over over that area ;)

Dynamat on the flat areas and some of the sheet metal:

I have to admit, this car is one of the easiest car that I've ever taken apart.

I started with some dynamat to add some mass to some of the sheet metal (but I think its more random if anything lol)

Then went to town with the VB2-HD

http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/2037/dsc00838z.jpg

I went ahead and added some foam

The rest of the car this weekend...I hope

I'm amaze IASCA is still around:D.
Great job with the sound deadening.
Bought a roll of Raammat but to lazy to apply it to my Fit.

Yeah they have not been out of california for years, but came came back last year. They have been primarily running events in the east :(

Thanks for the compliments guys, i'll try to take as much pics as possible.

They only problem that Im running into is the factory battery...or the lack of a real one :D

So far I've found batteries that are direct fit (and stock terminals)for the GE are Stinger and Odyssey, I'm leaning towards the Odyssey at the moment.

Im probably going to mount the tweeters and the mids deep in the corners. I was thinking direct on-axis, but im having second thoughts.

deep in the corner near the windshield?
will it still have good sound image being that far back?
i was thinking that too..but i wasnt sure, i should have asked my installer...but i didnt feel like spending anymore money on the install so i just got it on the door panels

Thats the main reason I want to put them back that far, to minimize the sound pathlengths. The Midbass woofers are going in the kicks to help minimize the pathlengths as well. The Clarion HU has built in time alignment, its likely that i'll still need to do further TA adjustments. I would like to use as less TA as possible

much respect....please keep us updated with pics

IIRC, the air bags are not in the A pillars themselves. They are up above the side windows. The airbag cords are attached to the A-pillars more than half way up, but not where you would place the speakers.

I believe so too.

for batt, kinetik makes one that can fit the fit, drop in for the GD at least, shouldnt be too diff for the GE

i've taken measurements, and i think the HC1200 fits and the HC1400R (reverse terminals so they're on the proper side)

i would double check the space you have.

IIRC, the GE battery tray is about 7.5 x 8.5...yeah tiny. I'll probably remove the battery and tray to see exactly how much room I have.

Stinger has a"honda" battery (made by Odyssey) that should fit.

MarkyMark 06-25-2009 03:44 PM

Looks like this build is going to be one to watch. :popc:

I was able to squeeze an Optima D51R into my GD, which uses a size 151 stock.

the hc800 fits right in perfectly..but you might want to get the one with reverse terminals..cause the original hc800 the terminals are on the wrong side
look at my signature/thread and i have the hc800(terminals on wrong side) for a picture if you like (I didnt know they offer the terminals on reverse side if you ask for it)

I stripped the interior today for further dampening

Again, Im only using mass loading in certain areas

Update for the day:

I ran the power wire today, what a PTA for this car.

$50 0awg special online a few months ago. Not the greatest, but more then I will ever need in this car.
