Pictures of speaker install '09 Fit
7 Attachment(s)
I've seen a few people asking about installing speakers on the new fit. It was a little confusing getting the door panel off and mounting the speaker due to lack of details on the internet so here is my two cents, hopefully it will help someone. The wire colors are all listed at the bottom also.
To get the door panel off first take off the screw located in the door handle. Attachment 59929 Next you have to take off the shroud around the arm rest and window controls. I found it easier to start on the end near the back of the door and pull it torwards the front of the car and out at the same time, the rest will just pop off. The piece seems to be very flexible so I doubt you will break anything pulling it off. Attachment 59930 After that there is one more screw about center under the arm rest that is revealed after pulling that off. It is visible in the above picture just to the left and below the window switches. Unhook the cable from the window switch. Then just find a spot somewhere on the sides or bottom of the door you can work your fingers in and pop the panel off. There are about 6 plastic clips holding it on and they will pop off with some effort. I took mine off many times, and managed to damage only one clip. Attachment 59931 Pull the panel up and off of the door, you can push the door handle through the hole. To take the stock speaker out just unscrew the one philips head at the top and wiggle the speaker upwards and out of the hole. It is held in at the bottom by plastic tabs. I chose to use the stock speaker to make the mount for mine. I used a dremel with a cut off wheel for plastic. The entire speaker is made of plastic so just cut off the magnet and basket and tear out the cone. After that cut off the brim on the top of the speaker between where the cone was and the foam. now you should have a nice smooth ring to mount your speaker too. Attachment 59932 Attachment 59933 After that your speaker will install just like the stock speaker. There is room in the door panel beside the foam piece for a crossover. Thanks. How easy was it to run the wiring for the tweeters to your crossover?
|
^^^^ what he said. did u use stock tweeters, replace em with stock wire or replace em with new wire?

Crossover
Great post. Going to be doing this over the weekend.
How did you secure the crossover to the door panel? |
To the OP: can you comment on the re-routing of speaker wire for the tweeters? Also, can you comment on the aftermarket Polk tweeter replacements of the stocks? How is the sound? Is the separation between the tweeter and midrange acceptable? How is the soundstage?
This is important to know because a lot of people don't want to have to cut tweeter locations in their doors in order to install components. Plus, there are not too many companies that produce starfish-designed component grills in order to mount the tweeter in the factory location. I only know of Infinity and a few Polk models that I have seen. |
This method worked great. I just put some db651's and it's a great improvement. I don't have a Dremel or wheel bit for my drill, but I found my henckels poultry scissors cut through that plastic ring pretty easily. Make a cut every inch or so and that ring snaps off super clean with just thumb pressure. Thanks for the post.

Keep in mind not all speakers will fit behind the door panel when mounted that way.
I just said screw it and cut the sheet metal in the door to a proper circle. Hell I think im going to cut it to 6x9 size on my next upgrade spree come tax return time. |
