I'd to share my first completed mod to the Fit and the elimination of a small annoyance.
:)

I now have fully functional Variable Intermittent Wipers using a readily available Honda Wiper Stalk.

(Please keep in mind that these are mods I performed on my own vehicle. I am not responsible for any damages as a result of reading/following this information. Do so at your own risk.)
(I am not a Honda Tech nor do I work for the automotive industry in any capacity... I'm just a Honda Fit lover that enjoys tinkering)


I will try and post as much info that I can, but here are the highlights:

My Car: 2009 USDM Honda Fit Sport MT, Non-Navi

Honda Wiper: 35256-SWA-A11 (Stock in 07-09 CR-V and 2010 Insight)

2010 Insight and 2009 Fit have nearly identical Under Dash Fuse Panels
- MICU variable int wipers function exists on fit, except wire is missing
-- No need to replace Stock Fit UDFP/MICU
- UDFP Connector Q (16P) Pin 7 needs to be wired to wiper stalk connector Pin 8

Like several late model Honda vehicles with Var Int Wipers, the wipers delay about 7secs if under (approx) 10 miles per hour. Once the car exceeds 10mph, it resumes the var int setting you've selected on the wiper stalk

Wiper Stalk 35256-SWA-A11 bolts into the steering column like stock. Additionally, it looks identical except for the var int adjuster.
(I bought it online for about $36.)

Why didn't Honda do this Stock??? Only one wire and an existing Wiper Stalk was needed!

very nice

tho my only complaint is lack of any kind of intermittent function for the rear wiper. Three 3,000 mile trips cross country and the regular intermittent on the front didn't bother me... I just can't stand On or Off for the rear :)

My cross country road trip was on day three of ownership. GA to NV.
I couldn't stand not being able to adjust the front wipers... it was always to slow on Int or to fast on Low.

Never really turn on the rear wiper. Guess I just never looked back :)

haha, the thing is... rain doesn't get the rear window wet... it's from driving and the water getting kicked up from the road. So unless you're in a downpour and the road is nearly flooded there's no way you need the rear wiper on constantly.

Great first mod... I've been dying for this.. as you mentioned the stock int is either too slow, or the slow setting is too fast...

Awesome mod! It breaks my heart it sounds like it's not possible on a GD3. Please, please correct me if you think I could be wrong. Repped!

How much did the Insight stalk cost? I would love to do this...I've always hated the intermittent wiper where intermittent just means slower than the other slow speed.

I paid about $36 for the Var Int Wiper Stalk. I placed an order online and got it in about 3 days. Seems like several places had it in stock.

While I used existing connectors from previous projects for the connectors, if anyone knows the Honda pigtail or Tyco numbers for the two ends (Stalk and UDFP), I'll add that to the info.

Wow, just checked the prices on those terminals. You have to buy a 25 pack and they cost $1 a pop. So, in other words, it will be $25 in total and nobody here wants to buy the correct crimper for these. $$$$

Outstanding! Placing an order on that stalk right away! I had done this exactl mod on my 2002 CR-V, and can't live without it!

Can you please provide detailed instructions on the exact position for the additional Pin on the connector, as well as fusepanel? Without this information I don't think anyone can reapply this awesome mod :) Thanks!

nice. i kinda do miss that delay function especially waiting at the light....

I'm surprised you only had to run ONE wire... in other installs I have done, there are 2 wires to be run. is this a reason to be concerned?

On the stalk connector, the fit has 7 of the 8 pins/wire already installed. There is only one wire to add (pin 8). This is also the only different between the Fit's wiper electrical schematic and the Insight's. There isn't a way to add two more pins.

On the UDFP/MICU connector, I don't have a good pic since I didn't remove it for the install. I'll try to sketch something out this evening and post it to show the exact position.
