Symptoms: scrapescrapescrape noise when turning left above 20mph.
Took drivers wheel off. Found that dust shield behind rotor (just below caliper) easily hits rotor when tapped. Tried to bend it a little by hand, not much luck, but the noise did change once I put car back together so I think that's it.
Question: what should I do? Pull wheel again and try to pry it away with screwdriver? Not sure what other ideas, it looks hard to remove.
I recently installed bigger brakes on the front of mine and had to bend the splash shield back to get clearance. It's there to keep rotor deformation down in wet weather braking and keep odd dirt/rocks out but I've owned cars with and without that shield and haven't noticed a real difference.
The splash shield is held in by three bolts behind the wheel hub. It looks like a pain in the ass to remove, so I think you're just better off just giving it a stern hand and bending it. I bent mine by hand, so it's not too terribly strong.
Bent it away a little .. Noise still there though! A bit stumped now.
Man that looks terrible to remove .. You have to remove the wheel hub! Why they would do it like that I can't imagine, possibly to protect the attachment screws from rusting at the heads.
