2010 Gauge Cluster Issues
 

Hi, I just bought a well taken cared of 2010 Honda Fit with a peculiar issue on the Gauge cluster. The issues are with the RPM and the Fuel Gauge. The RPM gauge reads idle below 0, with the needle moving to 3K RPMs at high engine revs, while the fuel gauge needle is about 1/4 off the actual value (ie. Full tank and it shows 3/4 tank). Whats interesting, with the ignition off both needles (RPM & Fuel) drop down, hanging below minimums... It seems that both needles are out of calibration, has anyone here had such electrical issues before?

I took a video today of the needle behavior, Is this a common issue?

Following the Cluster Reset Procedure in hope of calibration it continues to behave the same. It appears the cluster may be suffering from a permanent damage.

Has anyone here had these cluster issues?

This is very weird. Normally you'd only hear third-gens with cluster horror stories.

Do you know if the cluster has ever been taken out? The only thing I can think of is pinched wiring. It would suck if the cluster itself was faulty.

Good question, its hard to say if its been tempered with other than the stereo has been replaced with an Alpine unit at some point. Is there a chance the aftermarket stereo replacement caused a wiring issue leading into needles to malfunction?

Good thing you have mentioned the radio actually. This one I have learned the hard way:

The big yellow wire in the radio harness is actually some main wire for the CAN-Bus system. I once accidentally tapped it on the metal bracket and blew the fuse. Gauges were out of whack, door locks, and interior lights were not functioning. Found the blown fuse (first one I believe) and that fixed it. Hope yours is as simple as replacing said fuse.

Thanks, what blown fuse would cause cluster to be out of sync? Interior lights and door locks work. Did you end up using the yellow wire (Can-bus) for radio swap, or did you end up isolating it?

I checked the fuses under the dash today, they are all fine, the meter fuse I disconnected & reconnected in hopes of resetting the cluster with no luck...
Upon inspection of the fuse cluster I noticed a strange USB cord dangling behind all that fuse box wiring, it does not appear to be factory..the hunt is on.

Definitely trace back any potential shady looking wiring.

There is a link in my sig for a factory service manual. If you know how to get around a wiring diagram or two, it may be beneficial.

Thanks, I got the FSM from your signature link, 2600 pages to go through, this will take several weekends to investigate. I intend to start with pulling the Alpine radio first to see what lurks behind it, I hope no factory connectors were cut.

There is no hope for the gauges, they seem to be permanently out of alignment. I'm currently looking to replace the cluster, does anyone know how if the cars mileage can be transferred to the new used cluster?

Proper software, hex coding, and know-how.

Honestly, i'd just find a cluster that has the closest mileage that is within at least 100-200 miles.

Could be a flooded car

I did see a video online of a guy reprogramming the Honda chip outside the cluster board, its very deterring.

How difficult is it to remove the cluster, i couldn't find any go by video online. Has anyone removed the cluster with a step by step? Thanks

The factory service manual lists the steps. I'll PM you a copy.
