Wipers won't turn off ....2009 Fit
 

Well, they finally did turn off. My wife was driving the Fit and the wipers decided they had a mind of their own. I'm going to look at it in the morning, but would appreciate any ideas if someone has seen this before.

To start off, I've never seen this on a Fit before. My approach to checking into this though, would be to first do a search on this forum for posts regarding the procedure for adjusting the valves. There is also a good Youtube video out there in addition to regular forum posts that explains how to take off the ledge/cowling, that houses the wipers and wiper motor. This is the first step in getting to the area where the spark plugs and coils are and then on to adjusting the valves. When you have removed this cowling, that's as much of the video or post that you need to follow. Next check and make sure there is no excess dirt. pine needles etc, etc jamming up the area around the wiper motor movement. Inspect the electrical connection to the wiper motor for corrosion etc. If no apparent problems there, fully clean the wiper motor area. If you have access to a factory repair manual you can do a voltage check of the wiper switch to the wiper motor, with the switch in the on position, and then in the off position. Reassemble the cowling when you complete this procedure and are satisfied with the results.

If your wipers continue to turn on and off like normal, as you reported is happening now, I'd just keep an eye on them. If the wipers start to stay on again when you shut the wiper switch off, I'd suspect a bad wiper switch. I hope this helps.

the fact that they went back to normal is the anomaly. I've seen relays fail in the on position, in one instance this resulted in a constantly running radiator fan for a Dodge Grand Caravan.
In your instance I'd anticipate user error, but do check for a relay issue if there's recurrence. in emergency, feel free to simply pull the associated relay or fuse (if you just need it off til it's resolved)

Probably a dumb question, but did you look to see what setting the wiper was in? I've had times where the wiper was running in the "slow" setting & it was cuz I hit the wiper stalk w/o realizing it. 2013 Fit. Wife has done the same thing.

Thanks, all. I sat in the car and fooled with the wipers for a while. It seems like a switch or relay problem, as it is erratic. Sometimes the wipers turn off in the middle of the windshield. Sometimes they park normally. Sometimes they don't turn off.
Any advice on finding the relay would be appreciated. Switch replacement a big deal?

I’m having this exact same problem (2009 Fit Sport). I replaced the wiper switch and… no change. Looking at the wiper motor next — will update if I find a solution.

Any news?
 

Hi folks, this same problem has just appeared for my Honda Fit 2009 and am wondering if anyone has found a resolution to this issue. @Himples Any luck?

Hi @kchanasyk ! I ended up replacing the wiper motor with an after-market one, and that did the trick. I bought my Fit used and am not sure how many owners it had before me, but the wiper motor had been sealed shut with silicone glue, so it looked like it may have been opened up at one point.

You could check the wiper motor wiring harness under the hood also. That area tends to get debris and water, especially if your rubber molding is falling apart with the cowl.

Recently started happening to my 2009 Honda Fit Sport. Wipers seem to stop anywhere but down. Turning switch to off results in various times before it would stop and usually not down. Eventually would stop down if tried enough times but seems to be getting longer and longer before it will stop. Switch changes to faster speed but intermittent and slow speed act the same and shutting switch off doesn't stop for many cycles. Just wondering if this behavior is limited to the 2009 fits or has shown up elsewhere? Thanks!

My 2012 Honda Fit Sport just started doing this a few weeks ago. I have not taken the time to diagnose the issue.

Update: The issue ended up being the wiper linkage. The arms were misaligned and therefore causing the arms to not go back to the parked position when OFF.
