Any replace the Driver's Seat?
 

I'd like to get a driver's seat that is better than the stock seat. By better I mean more supportive, comfortable on long trips and offers a bit more lateral stability. Anyone ever replaced their stock seat? Any suggestions? Does the stock seat from a Civic SI fit in the Fit? Is the Civic seat wiring harness plug and play with the Fit?

I put washers under the front bolts of mine to raise the front up about 1/2 inch. Works well. Original seats are fine if you raise the front a little. Best of luck Clay

Thanks for that recommendation. I was hoping for something a little more firm than the stock seats. If replacing the stock seat becomes too much of a hassle I'll try raising as you suggested.

8th gen civic si seat bolts in, even maintains airbags and doesn't set a SRS code. The passenger side will set a code, it's a different type of position sensor and uses a different reference voltage.

I'm also curious on this one. The 8th gen civic seat mentioned above would be interesting, for science.

more discussion on the 8th gen seat (in the event that it is just a bolt in replacement, ?so should it's bolt in replacements be).

Thanks for that Red 05. That is the just kind of useful info that I am looking for. I've located a set of like new 9th gen si seats and I am now trying to find the pin outs / wiring harness info. Now that I have confirmation on 8th gen seats I will see if I can find a pair of those. Someone on another forum suggested current gen type r seats, but I have trouble believing that even Honda has standardized enough to make those even vaguely plug and play. I'm still looking and will post my solution when and if I ever have one.

That was a great thread that you linked to. A lot of good info. As usual I start out thinking this won't be that hard then I get lost in all possible ways of doing it. I felt the same way when I decided to change wheels and tires. Weight vs cost. Performance vs livability. Wheel / Tire size vs fenderwell etc. Decisions, decisions...

now there's a thought, honestly just knowing there are alternatives is a good thing. My seat has 100k miles of 220lbs wriggling around in it... lol

I'd also be curious, but not motivated enough too google it, if the 3 generations of fit that saw usdm have the same bolt pattern...

You suggest sourcing these from where? Junkyard? Serious question. I need a new seat, and I like a drop-in solution.

There's some decent looking ones on Ebay. The 9th gen si seats I found were at a Honda Performance shop. They had been replaced with a racing seat in a dedicated Civic si racer. So you might try some of your local Honda shops. You might get lucky with a junk yard.

The biggest thing to consider is probably knee clearances under the wheel since the gas tank is right under the driver/passenger front seats.

While I am aware that the gas tank makes fitting non-stock seats more problematic, I had not considered the possibility that a swapped seat might drive my knees/thighs into the steering wheel. I'll have to look closely at that before I make the swap.

My last resort will be to go to an upholstery shop and have the seat rebuilt and recovered. That is becoming more attractive as I go down this road. Too bad I no longer live in Texas because back home "I got a guy"...

This is real simple, but worked for me. My chiropractor told me to take a tube sock (long sock that goes to the knee) and roll up a small towel, put it in the sock. Then put it where the top & bottom of the seat come together. It kinda forces you to sit in a higher position. That did the trick for me, cuz my back was killing me. Honda seats are weird. Either have no problem or ya hate 'em. I've had the sock there almost 5 years.

While I don't use the sock, I do put a rolled up towel as a sort of lumbar support for my lower back. But my wanting to change seats is also about maintaining seat position during hard cornering and about long trip comfort (I'm coming up on b-day # 64 so I'm old).

The cushions in the Fit are too soft and not really in the right place for long term comfort, IMHO they are more designed more for a city car that takes short trips and work quite well for that.

Just as important to maintain seat (and head) position on a hard corner requires using ones legs to hold position but better side bolsters aid in keeping your torso in line with your track and not fighting to stay in place. The si seats may not be as good at holding the driver in place as a racing seat, but they are better than the Fit seat.

You guys must be Japanese size people. My knees are already up against the steering wheel. :)

Redoing the OEM seat might be the best option for me, even though it leaves me without a car for a while. Used to be a shop in North Hollywood named Nacho's Auto Upholstery. Maybe he could do it.

LOL! I'm 6-1 (long waist, short legs) but I still have about an inch between my knees and the steering wheel in the OEM seat. But seat height is definitely something to consider. I'd hate to buy replacement seats, have them installed and find out my knees are crammed into the steering wheel. That'd be funny. NOT!

Uh, this will sound weird but find a Civic Si group on facebook. I see those get sold all the time. eBay is a good place to look as well. Try finding wrecked partouts for seats. Most people want the engine and trans stuff, sometimes they wont go straight for the seats.

This is good news to me~ JDM FD2 Type R seats replacements would be perfect for what I am planning on!
