2011 Honda Fit Sport

Hi Everyone,

New member here, hope you all are having a nice Labor Day. I have been having an issue with my 2011 fit. The car has 118k miles. There a metal clacking/ticking sound between 1500-2000 RPM as well as around 2800-3000 RPM. Does this sound like it needs a valve adjustment? I change the oil every 4-5k miles.

You should be getting a valve lash adjustment done at 100K anyway per normal maintenance but that doesn't sound like noisy valves. If anything at 118k they should be pretty quiet, its when you get the adjustment done and properly tolerance them that the valves make noise again, usually the exhaust valves drift too tight and need to be loosened up. That noise reminds me more of a loose heat shield somewhere in the drive-line, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks for the reply, here is another one in the engine area. I'll do the adjustments next oil change.

Ah, now I can hear it better, that's your injectors firing. 100% normal noise, this is mine post valve lash adjustment. It's noisier than yours because its cold and was relearning idle after having the battery disconnected and the valves are freshly toleranced but the noise is there: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1naX...ew?usp=sharing

I don't hear anything obvious from these videos. But it makes me cringe seeing the engine run so hard without any load. Not good for the engine.

You may want to use a stethoscope (5$ at harbor freight) to detect the area where your noise is coming from.

Hi Everyone,

Quick update. Got the valves adjusted, serpentine belt replaced, and spark plugs replaced. All the valves were loose and needed to be retightened. I still hear the clickity sound though. Here is a video of the car around 2800-3000 RPMs. I started hearing the noise after 12 seconds into the video. The phone is under the front bumper this time.
