Tailgate won't open on 2008 Fit Sport
 

My tailgate opened fine for a while, and now it doesn't. When I open the car with my key and pull the handle, it doesn't open. I tried going inside and manually opening it by removing the small plastic piece which covers the locking mechanism and moving the lever, but it won't budge. According to the owner's manual you can manually open the tailgate by pushing the lever to the right, but mine won't move. I would take the interior tailgate trim panel off so I can see what's going on better but I don't know how (owner manual doesn't say). Any help much appreciated. Ideally I'd like to fix the problem but even advice on how to just get it open temporarily would be helpful. Thanks.
