I think doctor J used to post pictures of cut-up oil filters. The pictures are valuable, but what's your assessment? Is the Purolator as good, better or worse than the Honda OEM oil filter? And what are you going as for Halloween? The Oil Filter Slasher?
I'll need to get an OEM filter to compare to. This is the first time I've ever cut an oil filter open!
Based on my observations with this one, the bypass seal still seemed to function quite well. I mean, it sealed effectively, and I could still open it with a good amount of finger pressure, but I can't measure whether that pressure is ideal or in keeping with our engine's needs. The force exerted on the bypass seal is created at least in part mechanically by a spring of sorts in the outer casing.
Presses on that vortex shaped spring visible on the actual filter.
I can say that materials seem to be of high quality. the red rubber gasket wasn't deformed in the slightest. There was a lot of oil trapped in the filter's outer shell that only came out after I cut it open, so that means dirty oil wasn't being allowed to bypass filtration unless necessitated by excess oil pressure. So I guess I'd say it seems like a good filter. Freakin better be at its price point.
As for Halloween I don't have a costume or a plan. That's my life story in a sentence What about you?
When it comes to oil filters, I've always been content to go with OEM. In fact, as I posted in another thread, I just bought a carton of Honda "Made in Japan" filters.
Halloween used to be my favorite holiday, but the millennials ruined it. I expect the jackassery will be in full force next week.

I have an OEM filter on mine, its easier than possibly getting the incorrect filter, which has happened before at autoparts stores.
I priced the autoparts store vs Honda dealer, and it was only $0.61 difference in price, and i have to drive right past the dealer to get home, so would spend the 61 cents or more on gas going to the parts place.
