09 fit sport not engaging gears
Automatic , sport 85k milesHi all, just called for a tow . Car rolls while in park. I can start it in park, but shifting results in clunking noise/feeling, going into reverse or any other , it makes horrible clunky , then grinding, like gears are being shredded, it’s awful.. tranny fluid is just under fill line , figures as it heated it would hit the good zone on tranny fill stick.. what could it be? Drive train slipping out of tranny? I’m at a loss, it was fine one minute , then nothing… thank for reading and any response
If you've never replaced the axles on a 2009 in Massachusetts, especially if you're not very diligent about washing the undercarriage, Frenzal wins the prize.
On the plus side, Honda should fix this for you as this is a known issue in salt states.

Is there a TSB or a recall? Why would Honda fix it if it's out of warranty? (unless I am missing something)
There have been many posts here about the axle issues with the Fit. Here's the recall for A/T GE8 Fits. There's a similar recall for M/T Fits, although I think it may only apply to one driveshaft.
MFR CAMPAIGN ID: P9M
CAMPAIGN DESCRIPTION: 2009-13 Fit A/T Driveshaft Corrosion Inspection Safety Recall
RECALL DATE: 12/10/2020
RECALL STATUS: 17 Character VIN Required
SUMMARY: American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2009-2013 model year Fit A/T vehicles sold or ever registered in the following salt-belt states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Due to improper manufacturing, the protective coating on the drive shaft may not properly adhere to it, causing the drive shaft to be more susceptible to damage from road debris. In salt-belt states where de-icing agents are used to maintain the roadway, the de-icing agents could accumulate on the damaged areas of the drive shaft and corrode it.
SAFETY RISK: A corroded drive shaft could break under high torque conditions, rendering the vehicle unmovable. The vehicle may also roll away when parked (gear selector in the "P" Park position) if the parking brake has not been set. Both conditions increase the risk of a crash or injury without prior warning.
REMEDY: Please call any authorized Honda dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. The dealer will inspect both left and right drive shafts for corrosion-related protective coating deformities near the drive shaft's dynamic damper. If there are deformities within 40mm of the dynamic damper, the drive shaft will be replaced for free. For additional questions or to get help locating a dealer, owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138.
