Micro Fuses???

I blew one of the small fuses today in the accessory slot and what I found is a type of automotive fuse I've never seen before. Its the mini blade type fuse only this time there's no blade, the blade is part of the housing.

Where is one to find a replacement fuse?

Autoparts store?

pinballlooking 10-20-2008 09:22 PM

I got some at Auto Zone over the weekend.

Not very often are you going to find a proprietary fuse, the parts store will have them.

Pepboys has them, just look around the fuse section.

CRXsi#32 10-20-2008 09:27 PM

normal mini fuses will work also...they look slightly different but they do fit and work.

neteng101 10-20-2008 09:49 PM

Phew - good thing to know they're readily available. I haven't seen this style before - I have spares of minis and used one of those for now. Not a perfect fit but it works till I can get to Pep Boys or Autozone.

CRXsi#32 10-20-2008 09:55 PM

Why do you say it's not a perfect fit? Is it just because it sits taller than the others? To the best of my knowledge the metal contacts are the same distance as the newer style fuse...just the height of the plastic part is taller....

neteng101 10-20-2008 09:57 PM

Yes just taller than the rest - its functionally fine though.

CRXsi#32 10-20-2008 10:06 PM

I wouldn't be in a panic to replace it then. Even many dealers use the old style fuses as replacements. If it bothers you can get the new style but it shouldn't affect the functionality.

neteng101 10-20-2008 10:14 PM

I'll admit I'm a nut about fuses (thus why I had spares of minis)... but knowing the mini ones work is helpful. I'm going to look for a selection of the new style to keep as spares.

Aren't there a few spares in the fusebox?
Whatcha running off the acc fuse that would cause it to blow? Hairdryer? ;-)

neteng101 10-20-2008 10:35 PM

I couldn't find any spares in the fuse box. It was my portable air compressor that did the fuse in... I was having a hard time getting air into one particular tire with the bigger compressor, I think I need to get a new air chuck for it.

neteng101 10-21-2008 11:28 PM

So I went looking today - and they are hard to find around here. Pep Boys - nada... Strauss Discount Auto... nope... Autozone... score (only 2 packs of assorted low profile ATM fuses there, I bagged them).

CBX 10-21-2008 11:56 PM

I found some at Checker Auto. The assortment included the values used in the Fit.

Suprised to hear there there no spares.. I guess I'll be buying some online or local..

Yeah, I had studied the fuse diagram in the owner's manual pretty thouroughly to detemine there were no spares. I was on my way to Mexico, so I figured I better get them, pronto!

If one happened to blow, I'm sure you could swap out another non-essential one, such as a power-window fuse. The power port (formerly known as cigar lighter) circuit requires a 20A fuse.
