Things I don't like about the GE8

I've had the car now for a few days and overall, of course, i'm SUUUUPER Happy. However there are a few quirks that I just don't like:

1) Ever noticed how far away everything is from the driver? Grant it, there's a lot of space, but my arms are pretty long as I have a 6'2" wingspan and if I'm driving with my back to the seat, my arm fully extended can't even reach the number 6 preset on the dash!! That's insane.

2) Why the heck is the AUX input t h e r e !?! I know that if you get NAV, they move the AUX input to the bottom at the same area as where the Cigarette power adapter is....it's SOOO much nicer there 'cause you can actually REACH your iPod if you choose go the Aux input route instead of the USB...ALSO, it's unsightly to have your ipod just sitting there on that shelf below the upper compartment...you could get it stolen easier if in plain view.

Question: Has anyone thought about retrofitting the NAV aux location into non NAV cars? I would <3 that!

3) The seating position is just not t h a t comfortable, I feel like I'm sitting on a bar stool or something, I want to be lower. then again, I'm coming from an M3 and a S2000. The S2000 Was puuuuuuurfect:D Currently, I'm still trying to dial in the seating, even the steering wheel is hard to make perfect even w i t h all the adjustments.

That's about it...for now. :D I love this car though...everyone who's sat with me keeps on telling me how much they're actually impressed with the car.

The one thing that I keep getting from people over and over and over is how big is feels like while you're sitting in the car versus what it looks like when you get out. I'd have to completely agree. When you get out, you think to yourself, "I was just in that small thing??" LOVE IT! :D

exactly! using my serious gotta run a cord up the dash?
Started to take my dash apart, then audio unit as I plan to end up with the aux jack just above the console (similar to navi)
just started and am busy, wont have anything to report back for awhile.

This is probably one of my favorite things about the car. It feels like a van inside compared to the Civic sedan I used to drive.

How far back do you sit?

Alpha Zero Jan 28, 2009 02:57 PM

Yup. Long legs FTL.
The shifter used to be slightly uncomfortable shifting into 5th for me. After swapping out the shift knob for my old S2000 knob, it feels a lot better.

I guess when you're a taller guy getting the settings right can be difficult. Seems like, although you have a giant wingspan, you can't reach parts of the dash maybe because you're sitting so far back?

In the beginning I wished the Fit had the little knob on the side of the seat where you can adjust the upward/downwards tilt of the cushion. But since then, I've gotten used to everything.

Alpha Zero Jan 28, 2009 03:29 PM

Yea, I felt the same. It felt like I was driving a van because of how high it seemed I was sitting. I'm pretty much used to it now. While I still would have liked to sit lower.

manxman Jan 28, 2009 03:31 PM

Not being a tall guy, I don't have the OP's problems- everything is comfortable to me compared to my old '07 Sport. All Fits are bigger on the inside than they are on the outside.

got_FITted_09 Jan 28, 2009 03:48 PM

I don't know my wingspan but I'm not that tall... only 5'9" and I find myself sitting much closer to the dashboard than my previous cars to be able to reach the shifter more comfortablely. I also found the seat to be a little higher than what I am used to but I have gotten used to it.

Ha... and about how big the car feels inside... I completely agree. Everytime I get out of the car and walk away from it... I look back and still get amazed at how small the car is from the outside. It feels like an optical illusion or something.

L15A Jan 28, 2009 04:05 PM

That's the funny part. I don't sit that far back at all! I'm only 5'10" but I have a 6'2" wingspan which should help me with the controls...I don't like reclining too far back, 'cause I like to drive "engaged"

:vtec:position. haha.

It's just far away. I miss the S2000...

Oh yeah..that reminds me...and I'm NOT saying this to make myself feel better..haha, but anyone who's had experience with S2000s...(we've owned 3 of them)...DOESN'T THE ENGINE NOTE OF THE L15A SOUND LIKE THE OLD AP1 2.0L S2000 Engine!?!?!?!?!? I TOTALLY think it does. I was absolutelyl amazed. I LOVE IT. and that's not even with an intake, This is STOCK!

Alpha Zero Jan 28, 2009 04:45 PM

Dunno about that, but every Honda I've ever driven has had a nice engine note and an appetite for revs. That's one of the reasons why I like them:D

It does have a familiar tone! I had an AP1. Although I wish it accelerated like the S, it feels like the Fit could go much further pass the redline. I guess I'm still used to the 9K RPM :p

hahahaha, that is so true!

Does anyone else get that "my car won't fit in that spot" feeling, because the car DOES feel HUGE on the inside?

Some of it I think (for me) has to do with the rear view mirrors being much larger than in my old 86 VW. That makes the car feel BIG.

That long windshield and dash, that makes the front feel HUGE, and not being able to see where the front of the car ends, that's another fool the eye trick.

When you first got the car, did you end up parking several feet back from the curb? Not because you wanted to protect your front end, but because you weren't sure how far out that front end extended?

I too feel that.

I'm amazed when I pull in a small space that the car is that small from the outside. If feels like a bigger car inside.

I love it when people sit in my car and say "wow there is alot of room in here"

I crunched over one concrete parking barrier in my '07 and quickly got used to stopping 1-2 feet farther back. With my '09, the inability to estimate distance got even worse. The dash is twice as deep, and in driving, the car feels about 3 feet longer than the GD's, and about 2 feet wider. So far, I have not dragged the GE's front lip over concrete at all. But I feel as if I look like the old ladies who stop 15 feet back from the crosswalk at intersections ('cause they can't see over the dash).
