Honda to Release 67 MPG Fit Hybrid in 2010

"Honda is finally trying to catch up to Toyota in the hybrid game with three new hybrid vehicle joining Honda's lineup in the next few years. First we will get the Insight hybrid next year, followed in 2010 by a production version of the CR-Z hybrid concept and then eventually a Fit hybrid.
Sources are now claiming that Honda is going to release a hybrid powered version of the Fit/ Jazz in 2010. The Fit hybrid will feature the same hybrid power train as the Insight, which is a 1.3L engine mated to an electric motor. According to sources the Fit hybrid will get approximately 67 mpg."

I don't know about anyone else but I'll be tempted to throw a Hybrid badge on my Fit to gain access to the HOV lanes. :p

I hope for the hybrid, but it should have come out a long time ago. Like around the time they were redoing the body for 2009 and making the Insight. Now I just find it annoying, if it comes out in a year after buying the regular model. I want the hybrid.

However, the Insight doesn't get 67 mpg or even close to that. If it did, I might have held out for the Insight. The Insight costs more, but has little more to offer than my base FIT.

Question is will we ever see it.... . . ??

The Insight can get 67mpg according to several things I've read, in Econ mode.

if the hybrid Fit carries a 4k premium and if the gas price doesn't go up high enough it won't sell well. if the price premium over the regular Sport is 2k or less then I will definitely get one.

The EPA does not allow the use of the ECON mode for MPG testing hence the lower MPG sticker. I cannot think of one publication when driving in econ and trying for mileage that did not get mid 50s and many got in the 60s. At our drive event I got 46 in sport and 57 in econ with no sweat at all.

I don't believe the Fit Hybrid is slated for the US.

The last official word from Honda, which came out about a year ago is the Fit Hybrid is not destined for the US.

I'll wait for the fit hybrid plugin with solar panel roof please.

Yep... they'll sit on the sales figures for the Insight for a while and see how the market turns... all dependent on gas prices I would assume.

I agree. they won't release the Fit hybrid here unless the Insight is selling through the roof. The Fit hybrid will be a "notch" below the Insight so they have to be sold even cheaper w/ less bells and whistles.

"The Insight borrows heavily from the strut-based Fit, and the entire chassis and suspension from the firewall forward is pure Fit. The spring and damper calibrations are specifically optimized for the Insight, of course, but the geometry and many of the hard parts are identical. And while the rear suspension isn't a direct carryover, the twist-beam rear axle is the same."

I didn't know whether to post this with the Insight or in here. So it's getting put in here. LOL

DROVE an Insight last week; dealer had half a dozen. The demo was marked on the true price sticker as not for sale, but the others were.
Pleasant car; seemed peppy, tho' not as much so as my Fit. The engine seems to run all the time, except at a dead stop, tho' it drops to idle when the electric motor is doing its thing.
When you step out from a stop, there is an odd 'tremble' as the engine restarts and takes off; that was the only indication that the car was anything but conventional; the engine at idle was only noticeable thru' the tach.
Not as roomy as the Fit, tho' it's prettier and has a somewhat nicer interior.
