MPG - whats the best you've gotten?
 

Right now my Fit is showing 42.0mpg, wondering if anyone has seen anything better?!

Though I don't gauge or calculate my mileage anymore, the highest I've seen on my gauge was 50.6 during a short hwy drive after resetting my tripodometer. And I was doing 70 mph that whole short stint.

My lone long distance drive on the hwy was from LA to Vegas and back, and also to LA to near San Diego. My Vegas trip yielded 45.9 on the gauge, and that's with strong headwinds, hills, A/C and doing 70 mph.

My usual commuting week in LA shows 37-38 on the gauge.

I'm very happy with the mileage.

Yeah that 50.6 would surely have gone down quickly, I don't see the car getting that good of mileage period lol, must have just taken the computer a minute to figure it out. That 45.9 is niiiiiice though!

All of this is with a M/T i'm guessing (by your username)??

Got 42mpg on a 3 hour trip with my A/T...I average about 35/city and about 39/hwy...sweet

The dash meter is very inaccurate btw. To get a more accurate estimation, you should manually calculate it.

Computer to figure it out? Not really. After resetting the tripodometer I watched the gauge go up, quickly into the 40s and slowly up to 50.6. I don't hypermile really, and I even run factory psi in my tires. But just remember, there are points of lift-throttle, even during hwy drives that helps mileage, as long as you get back up to speed efficiently.

If you look at the instant bar gauge, while you're doing 65-70, it will show you at least 45 mpg. And if you take my 45.9 mpg trip, which included A/C, strong headwinds and lengthy hills doing 70 mph, achieving near mid-forties doing 70 is entirely possible under IDEAL conditions.

And yes, when my car was new I would always manually calculate my mileage. I was the one who first figured out the +4 mpg for the gauge back in August. So my LA weekly commute would consistently yield 34-35 mpg MANUALLY CALCULATED. That was back then. I now have close to 9,000 miles on it which should help mileage even more.

ok... I learned quickly not to trust that meter. I do my own math, the best I have gotten was 41.78mpg.

Never gotten worse that 32.5-33mpg and that was doing between 85-90mph for 170 miles.

Just don't trust that meter, its off by up to 10mpg. I was showing 40mpg when i got the math at 32.

I usually allow 10% on top of what the meter says - too lazy to work it out, but from what people tell me 10% is pretty close. Either way, at an average of around 7 l/100km it's a lot better than my old Mitsubishi Magna.

The meter is an estimate, an optimistic one at that. It also does not take into account ethanol-laced gasoline which costs me ~10%MPG. I calculate mileage on every tankful. Doing the occasional one is cherry-picking and yields skewed results. Best so far has been 38.7 at < 1,000 miles. On the funny little dash meter I have gotten up in the 50's, then it settles down to the very high 30's and low 40's. It lies.

The photo is somewhat skewed anyway. It was after an open road run and it was the best I'd achieved up to that time. It doesn't represent what I'd normally expect to achieve. And yes the fuel economy and rangegauges are about as useful as a chocolate teapot, but it's fun to see how low (or high in MPG) a number you can achieve.

after i filled up the tank today, drove to work (35 min drive mix of city/hwy) i was able to achieve 4.8L/100km = 49 mpg according to the gas gauge. I know it is not an accurate measure but I use the gas gauge to monitor my own driving habits. It's become the new challenge for me to try to keep the gauge below 5L/100km but its kind of difficult b/c I enjoy hearing the PRM intake REV so much.

And when the Greddy SE or the Tanabe Concept G exhaust come out....oh boy

I make a 700 mile round trip every couple of weeks. Sea level to 4500 ft with a couple of passes at 5000 ft in between and return using the same route. I let the mileage gauge run the whole trip and also calculate gas consumption manually. Last trip, gauge showed 40.9 mpg which corrected to 36 mpg. I cruise between 70 and 80 and about half the journey is in the mountains. Performance seems to suffer at altitude (thin air) and the Fit does not really like steep climbs. The trick is to keep momentum, i.e., avoid using the brakes as much as possible, accelerate gently downhill to build speed and then ease off going uphill. Which is how I used to drive my old Vanagon diesel! For me the Fit is a reasonable compromise between performance and economy. The best vehicle for the trip was my C4S, 80 mph average for the trip and still >25 mpg, but it was a tight squeeze for the dog and supplies. In my Jeep SRT8 I can still average 80 but mileage is 15mpg on a good day.

I actually got the mpg meter to say 48.4 mpg a few days ago....Just a bit off I think!

the meter is 10% off. I can live with that.

I've had my M/T '09 Fit for a month or so. I've filled it up twice and got 32.4 and 32.8 (the gauge said 37 both times) in mostly city driving.

I never thought about how the ethenol in the gas could be affecting our milage readings. You are probably right. I wish they would do away with that stuff because it causes more problems than it solves just for the sake of saying we are using less oil. Need to find a better way.
