MP3s out of order on your Sport Nav stereo?

Solution finally found! I haven't actually got the chance to test this yet as my wife is away at work with the Fit.

This has to do with USB flash media. What happens is the song order is taken from the fat file system time stamp and NOT the ID3 tags from the files or the file names... or even the modified time stamp viewable in windows file explorers. You can see the difference if you go to a DOS style command prompt to view the folder directory contents.

Solution? Use this little program called Foldersort. It will sort the mp3's fat file system time stamp according to the name. I am 99.9% sure this will now work... now I just have to wait for the end of the day to test. Arrrrggghhhh. If you test it and it works, post here.

Sometimes the microprocessors sort different than what you would think. For instance: files alphabetically starting with an "01" will not be sorted before "011", "012", etc. The trick is to usually rename the file with something after the "01" to trick microprocessor to look at it first. For instance you might change the "01" to "01a". This will cause the microprocessor to play it before the other two but still allow you to understand the intent of the normal order. I don't know that this will positively work for the FIt but it has worked for me in other applications.

Yeah, I've already tried all naming conventions... 01, 02... 11, 12 should be universal, but it doesn't work. In fact, the list shows up completely random with no alphabetical order of any kind.

I found it has nothing to do with the naming of the file or the ID3 song list order. The microprocessors are reading the fat time stamp which isn't viewable in standard file browsing views.

I downloaded Drivesort from Anerty.net which is probably similar to FolderSort. Print out the instructions on the web page, there isn't any usable help in the software.
I just put 5.5 gig of mp3s on a new flash drive and it works fine.

I named each CD as a folder (Eagles-Long Road 1). Each file on the CD was originally named "Eagles-Song1". I changed the file name to "aEagles-Song1" for the 1st song on the CD then "bEagles-Song 2" for song 2 etc. Then sort the folder and save the sort.

The software has other ways to do the same thing, that was easiest for me.

Good luck!

Tom

Thank you thank you thank you! Wow, I almost had a heart attack when I spent all weekend creating 4 GB flash drive of all my songs, only to find it wouldn't alphabetize! This did the trick. Thank you!
