Nice Stevieontario,
But how much of the A/C vent does it obstruct? Does air still seems to go through? I live in Florida and I need the most air circulation I can get.. hehe

At least, your GPS will stay nice and cool in the summer and toasty warm in the winter.;)

I have two devices on so it blocks more than just one would but I still get air out of one side, they make another one that mounts on the A-pillar if you look on the site I posted...

I have my Nuvi more in line of sight. I used JBWeld to mount the base to dash. No effin way it is coming off.

I do just fine with my Cliphanger + Cliphanger Auto hooks. Cliphanger Lets You Hang Your Phone or iPod Anywhere!

Looks pretty nice, but one thing comes to mind for me. Is it safe for electronic devices like that to be exposed to the A/C for extended periods? I would imagine they could build up condensation inside and go *POOF*, since so much condensation at times builds up just above the center vents.

I bought that same mount for my Fit, but I cut a notch in the top and bottom so that it fits over the separator between the vents. Thought it looked better centered.

is the base mount permanently attached to the vent? can it be removed and stored while you're away from the vehicle?

stevieontario 10-23-2010 05:36 PM

everything stays put, permanent.

I have the pillar mount and it is awesome. I still have access to the cup holder, all the vents are unobstructed, and I don't have to change the plane my hand is one when adjusting things.

I will say though, using the left hand is hard, and I have a special home screen set up to make it easier. Not sure which is safer though, this, or sacrificing visibility (and style) for control. When I make mistakes, I am fiddling around trying to get back to what I wanted, which is more time I'm not paying full attention to the road. Just wanted to add a disclaimer, because this is one super cool-ass mount, as I hope these images will convey, but I don't want to promote using it if there is a safer solution. In Texas, blocking the vents is not an option, so I felt like it was the best choice for me. It's super sturdy, and I'm damn impressed with this product.

looked at ProClips website and they have options to be able to detach and re-attach the device holder (in my case an iPhone), however, the base mount has to be attached to the vent via adhesive, which helps in making it very very stable.

i ordered this and but realized after i got it, that this system won't work for me. i need to make my dash look pretty bare, and have no hint of GPS or iDevice. my neighborhood has had many a busted car window, due to thieves looking for device mounts on the dash.

fantastic product though, i have to give it to them for making this custom made for our cars.

AC actually dries the air. that's why it's so much more efficient to defrost a windshield with it on. but once you turn it off, you'll get whatever humidity that's outside. I can't imagine that it's too terrible though.

anyway, I do love pro clips and RAM mounts. they're super secure but can get pricey.

A-pillar

The Pro clip for the A-pillar utilizes unused space and blocks nothing. A smart thief would know you put something on that thing though. If you want a solution that does no permanent damage (holes or JB weld) then the proclip is awesome. Pricey but professional looking.

hayden 10-24-2010 07:30 PM

I know these are really versatile for mounting different things, but in this day and age, a phone does just about everything. I doubt anyone leaves their phone in the car, but seeing a mount still may provoke someone to break in and check, I guess. That's not the mounts fault though.

ProClip is worth the money imo.
