Intake suggestions for an AT? Here's what I've got so far.
So I'm trying to decide on an intake, and was hoping to get some testimonials. My GE8 is AT, so that limits my choices a bit. Right now, from what I can tell, I have the following options:
K&N Typhoon - Looks like a soild design, other users seem to have had relatively good experiences. Password PowerChamber - Don't know much about this one. Thoughts? Injen SP - I'm not sure whether or not this intake is compatible with AT...seems like you could use it as short ram, but I haven't been able to find more specific info, and the part number returns no results on Injen's site. T1R B-Max - Again, info on this one (including price and availability) is scarce. Been to the vendor thread about it, and it looks like a nice setup. I'm heavily considering T1R's 50S Muffler (and B-pipe later on), so I thought it might be nice to partner them with the intake. I tried to contact Type One for more info am waiting on a response. So, this is what I've got so far. K&N seems to be the easiest choice, but their products seem more at home on my Firebird than my Fit. Still, nice sound, nice design, and modest performance boost are pushing me that way. Thoughts? Experiences? Other suggestions? |
yah, just keep it stock.

^lol.
actually the K&N is good. but way too pricey. |
the password:jdm intake is for gd3, not ge8

where's the PRM?

Another GE8 AT owner here. As soon as I get my JDP pieces out of the way I'm going with the K&N. Seems pretty solid.

honestly, I think its just too early to tell. The lack of companies rushing to offer a solution is probably an ominous sign that theres not a lot to gain.... and the prices for what is there is nose bleed level.
Unless you are intent for modding for the sake of modding, you need to play the waiting game. Otherwise, my approval definitely goes to the K&N |
I have Injen Cold Air Intake for my GE and its been fun! :vtec:
Once you hit about 5k rpm, you'll really hear the CAI sucking in the air (I usually bump my music up so you'll probably hear it if you don't). And another good thing, this particular CAI turns into short ram :) The person that sold me the CAI told me that this gave an additional 8hp and 5 tq. I bought mine from Pann Auto, a shop here in SD for $295. I went on the Injen website but didn't find it there so I guess you have to buy it from a dealer around you. Oh yea, another good intake would be the one made by Tanabe. It adds about 5 hp not sure about torque though. They have a video on youtube if you want to check it out. Hope I helped! |
Where's the Takeda intake made by AFE?

I tried to call, as well. The company that imports AFE products up here in Canada can't even get a hold of them. Pretty sad.

Back when I was pricing intakes I placed a call to PRM after 6pmCST. The owner picked up and immediately answered all my questions.
Customer service may not be the top priority for your intake purchase, but it's definitely an important consideration. Welcome to PRM Racing - Jet Stream Intake System |

PRM was able to supply me with some images and a video if the dyno of the intake installed on the GE8.

Our kit draws air from the same location as stock; ambient air is fed into the filter via the stock hood scoop safely with no fear of hydro- lock." For the price it's almost $70 cheaper than the K&N. I do like the heat shield on the K&N and the cleaning process on the PRM seems pretty involved (empty dirt, spray with soap solution and flush repeatedly, and then oil repeatedly). Anyone know how you clean the K&N? What do you guys think? |
