Door wouldn't lock with remote?!

Hello all :) New 09 Tafetta White Fit Sport owner here! Loving this new car and is a huge upgrade from the POS 4dr Integra I came from. :)

Anyways, when I came home this afternoon, I did my usual thing. Turned off ignition, put the e-break on, got out of my car, press the lock button.

BUT WAIT A MINUTE! The red light blinked when I pressed my lock button, BUT MY CAR DID NOT LOCK ITSELF. I fiddled around with all my doors, making sure they were lock, my trunk, etc. After 20 minutes of panicing, IT WORKED.

Anyone know why it didn't lock!? :(

Its happened to me before, but it was cause I left the hatch not completely closed. It may look closed but sometimes it doesnt close all the way. Unlike the doors that will stick out a bit when theyre not completely closed.

OMGOSH, that is probably why mine didn't lock too. Because I forgot to mention I had taken out groceries outta my trunk as well. Thank you! :D

Yeah I was just as obsessive as you were over it. :rotfl:

This can also happen if the hood is not shut, FYI. Hope you got it figured out.

I can't see how that can be. There's no switch on the hood and it has nothing to do with the locking mechanism.

He's right though. Its happened to me before. It has to do with the alarm since its linked to the hood.

Ah. Could be but I don't have the factory alarm on mine (Canadian LX).

Edmunds had that problem with their long-term GE. In their case the hatch switch had actually failed--the hatch was closed fully but the electronics still thought otherwise and wouldn't allow the car to lock.

Why doesn't the remote lock the doors with one open? This has been driving me nuts. I often want to lock the doors while I still have the hatch open so I can put my keys in my pocket and pick up stuff to carry.

If it did, then you'd end up leaving one door unlocked--possibly without realizing it.

Not if I knowingly had one of the doors open for a reason and then closed it. My old car would lock the doors even if one was open, it just wouldn't chirp the horn on the second press if something was open.

My Hemi Caravan operates like that. I can open the hatch and then lock doors. When O am done in back the hatch it will lock when I close it. It would be nice if the Fit just had it on the hatch.

I always hit the lock button on my remote twice and listen for the horn to honk. If it doesn't honk, then you know that you have a door or the hood open.

I think it's a "feature" to both prevent you from locking your keys in the car and to let you know if one of the doors is ajar. I could go either way on which I prefer, but I *think* I like the Honda way a little better...especially on the Fit since the hatch is high enough that if I have my hands so full, I probably have to put something down to close it anyway.

Good point--I hadn't thought of it that way.
