Something weird happened today to my Fit
Just to point out, I'm smart enough to know not to fill up my car while the engine is running, and I tighten the gas cap down and check it every single time. Now, on to my story.
I get in my car at school today and crank my car over. As I buckle up, the mini screen in the dash flashes these three words:
Check
Fuel
Cap.
I think well wtf? I get out and check it and just like I suspected, it's on good and tight. I had to go to another class across town, but decided instead to go straight to the dealer, since I figured if there's nothing wrong with what I normally do, something is up. I get there, they take me in, I wait around 30 minutes, and they're finished. Instead of fixing something or telling me what went wrong exactly, they reset the code(s), warn me not to do this again or they will charge me, neglect to tell me exactly what went wrong other than insisting that I was filling the car while the engine was running, and continued to completely ignore my repeated efforts to assure her that I do indeed know not to run the engine when refueling, and tells me this happened because I was running the engine.
The only thing I could get out of this Marlboro-riddle sap was that the car threw two codes, one of which was a "Mass Obee-vee senser" and the other was camouflaged with more menthol-laden coughing. I was fed up and I wanted to go home, so I didn't ask her to attempt to repeat herself.
I appreciate that I didn't have to pay, this once but what gets me is that I'm treated like a complete idiot.
/rant.
Now, has anyone else had this happen?

Similar issues happen with other tsx's. Its something to do with the gas fumes and drops in outside ambient temperatures. All I did was retighten the gas cap and the light will reset itself in a couple days. Don't know if this is the same instance but this is what it sounds like. Here are the stories...

Haven't had it with the Fit but had it once with the tsx.

Really- signs? I keep the car running and light up a nice big fat cigar every time I fill up. I even strike some flint sticks just to make it interesting.

Yes, I got lazy with the Fit. I had a '97 Caddy that was REALLY picky about shutting down for fill up. It would throw a code pretty easy for that. I will shut the Fit off like I should.

This is what you do, turn on the engine, let it run for a 30 seconds. Open the gas cap while the engine is running, "yes open the gas cap" let it open for 10 seconds. Then turn the engine off while the gas cap is off, be sure to remove the key. Close it with the cap. Then start the engine, after 5 seconds it will disappear.
Good luck. It works for me, lets hope it works for you too.

My car did this 3 or 4 times in its youth. I had a scangauge back then and just cleared the codes myself. Ignore it and I bet it'll go away. Screw the dealer and buy your own code reader. Or just go to autozone, and they will read your code for free. Sounds like your dealer sucks.
if there is a DTC, just clear it using a OBD2 scanner and see if it reappears.
if it does, clean the gas cap's seal and see if that helps. if not, take it to the dealer and get a new cap.
