tire bubbles

I have had my fit since April, and i now have a bubble on my driver side front tire. Has anybody had this problem and should my dealer fix it. I only have 2900 miles on it nervous to drive on it any help would be a huge help.
Thanks

I have read other reports of bubbled tires, replaced under warranty. Go for it.

Krimson_Cardnal 06-20-2010 11:08 PM

Take care of it pronto - bubbles burst - think housing - and you could get hurt or hurt others or your FIT.

ECGETAWAY 06-20-2010 11:42 PM

No doubt I found it this morning. She hasn't moved out of the driveway. So head to the dealer tomorrow asap. And have it taken care of cause 2900 that has to be a faulty tire right?

I had a bubble in the sidewall of a snow tire NOT replaced under warranty. Claimed it was damaged by a pothole. Good luck. Do get it replaced quickly.

Take you car in for service immediately.

I discovered a bubble or blister on the thread of tire on my previous car. I kept hearing a persistent thumping noise coming from the rear. I was planning on taking it to a tire shop the following weekend. It was a bad mistake. The tire exploded as soon as I exited the freeway.

ECGETAWAY 06-20-2010 11:50 PM

its not on the tread though its on the side wall that's what i don't understand unless thats what you mean. was your snow tire a stock tire though it has a limited warranty and it says it doesnt cover bulges and that worries me

pharmpk 06-20-2010 11:55 PM

The bubble was on the sidewall. A Blizzak. Not OEM. The professional (who might have allowed a defect claim) said it was damaged, thus not a defect. Not curb rash but a pothole. I would have thought it should have survived some potholes?? First time I've seen such a bubble in many years of driving.

ECGETAWAY 06-21-2010 12:01 AM

yeah its the width of two of my knuckles and sticks out pretty far Oklahoma city roads are really screwed up right now, i bet they try to blame it on that but dang that sucks

I had the same thing a few months ago. Stock Dunlop, front passenger side. A pothole bashed the crap out of it. I remember it too, even though I didn't discover the buldge until sometime later on the sidewall. It was so bad it almost felt like the car pushed backwards when I hit that pothole. I was amazed I didn't get a flat at the time. I think I drove on it for a good 300 miles [road trip] before I noticed it. But when I did I got a new tire immediately from tirerack and had my local mechanic swap it. Didn't even bother with warranty at the dealer, which I'm sure would have been a hassel. The tires are cheap enough, imo. But that buldge freaked me out and I swapped it within 48hrs, doing very little driving until it was done.

The tire was on my son's car so I don't have a memory of hitting a pothole ;-) I discovered it about the end of the winter season so we just changed sets of tires and replaced before the next cold season. Shockwave199 thanks for the details of your experience it makes my no warranty experience more acceptable. At least it didn't leave him stranded. My wife hit something on a local four(+)-lane (Broadway Extension) and lost a tire and a wheel in the process.

Odds are you wont be getting it replaced as most bubbles come from hitting potholes, curbs or other random road debri and road damage is not covered by warranty.

Virtual 06-21-2010 11:47 AM

You may also find that Honda doesn't warranty the tires. There's some warranty documentation that came with my car that specifically shows to contact the tire maker for tire warranty issues.

But... My dealer did replace one oem Dunlop tire that had a slow leak (pinhole in sidewall) during few first few weeks after purchase. It was quite difficult to get them to replace it as they kept saying that they don't cover the tires. They finally did agree to replace it as a goodwill gesture because they saw that it was a defect and not road hazard damage.

ECGETAWAY 06-21-2010 11:56 AM

no to replacing the oem tire bought another one though yippee for having to fork over so much money ha ha at least my car is safe and first oil change rolled over to 3k when i pulled on the lot

First oil change at 3K and the dealer advised this??? Strange..

ECGETAWAY 06-21-2010 12:17 PM

no i decided to do this and the dealership didnt cover anything so i had to go to the dunlop retailer. to check the tire, i just decided to have them change the oil im not getting the best MPG so i just figured to change the oil would maybe have some effect

Krimson_Cardnal 06-21-2010 12:32 PM

ECGETAWAY - FYI, lot's has been said around here regarding Honda maintenance and oil changes. The dealer changed your oil because you requested it - however, Honda is quite adamant that one should wait until the MM shows 15% Oil Life particularly on the first oil change. Did they mention any of this to you, just curious.

MPG has nothing to do with oil, or Octane for that matter, as some might think. It's all about driving technique and engine design. Honda has taken good care with their part, the rest is up to you and how you drive. At 3K your engine is brand new and will only break-in to give you better MPG's - patience grasshopper.

well i shall wait on the oil change then i got ahold of the dealer before they started on my FIT just getting a new tire put on today will wait till 15% thank you to everyone on these forums
